You've gotten a lot of good advice. Just to add...when my DD had a yeast infection I put some apple cider vinegar in her bath water...seemed to clear it right up!
Anyone know if there are any home remedies or preventions for a (vaginal) yeast infection? Are there foods or liquids I should avoid or consume more of? I am under a lot of stress right now & seem to be getting more than my share. The stress isn't going to go away anytime soon, so I need some other way to avoid these irritating female problems.
I just wanted to thank everyone for their advice! It is so nice to have a website like this where we can all support each other!! As it turns out, I was able to cure this without going to the doctor or buying any of those expensive OTC creams like Monistat. I took acidophilus tablets 3 times a day, ate a lot of yogurt & increased my water intake. It took about 5 days, but it finally went away. Now I am making it a point to eat yogurt every day & I take at least 1 acidophilus pill everyday. Hopefully that will be enough to prevent any future infections. Thanks again ladies!

Here are a couple of websites that have lots of information on natural ways to fight yeast infections. Hope they help!

This is going to sound crazy but I have done it myself and my nieces x 7, daughter and sister x4 have all had great success.
Crisco-- the white shortening. Get the small can and keep it in the fridge to avoid additional infections. Use a sandwich bag to apply the Crisco to the area. This should clear up within 2 days.
Good luck
Sorry you are suffering!
The only things I was ever told were to eat lots of yogurt and to put your underwear in the oven! The underwear in the oven sounds like a really silly old wives tale, but the yogurt is supposed to actually help. I think.
Tammi, watch your sweet tooth, sugar can cause chronic yeast infections, a woman that binges on sweets is prone to yeast infections. use brown sugar or honey instead. avoid alcoholic beveages, mushrooms, eat plenty of foods that are high in vitamin C such as potatoes, citrus fruits, and broccoli. cause vitamin C helps boost your immune system. , wear baggy clothing, stay away from polyester, lycra, spandex, leather, and other fabrics that don't breath.. heal with yougart, its a natuaral healer of yeast infections. simply eat at least 1/2 cup of yougart containing live cultures each day to prevent and treat infections, aviod bubble baths scented tampons orscented or colored underware , panties , colored or scented toilot papper, prouducts with dys, perfumes and other chemicalsthat can iratate vaginal tisue. I recomend white toilot paper with no scent. works for me .

Please look this up on the internet or even go to a health food store for advice and refernce materials but besides yogurt I have heard cloves of garlic help. You actually insert the garlic so I would not do this without talking to someone or reading it in a home remedy book... but there are natural remedies out there...
You also might look up the benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar- suppose to be a huge help in fighting an over abundance of yeast in our bodies.
Yes, avoid sugars & starches for sure. Cotton underwear only. Read "Candida Albicans" by Leon Chaitow, D.O., N.D. for explanations & suggestions for natural ways to decrease & treat. Its available for sale at www.ccli.org. Also "The Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy" by Valeria Ann Worwood has several "recipes" for natural ways to treat, using yogurt, vinegar, & a variety of essential oils. I got mine at Overstock.com, but both books might be available at your local library as well. I'd also recommend using acidophilus, & making a visit to your doctor to get prescription for Diflucan. It may take more than 1 dose to clear your system. You may also want to consider if you might be allergic to something. My mom & sisters, who have lots of food allergies, deal with yeast overgrowth chronically (they have standing orders for Diflucan!).
There is a really good chance that you are overrun with yeast. It can live everywhere in your body and causes all sorts of problems. Look it up online and see if any of the symptoms of chronic yeast apply to you. That said, yes, yogurt helps...so do cotton undies. Put the thong away, it's just irritating! LOL You might need a round of an oral medication to clear up the yeast throughout your body, not just down below. Ask your doc for an Rx for Diflucan with refills in case it returns. Good luck!

You are probably consuming too much sugar. I have Juv. Diabetes and I only get yeast infections if I am eating too much sugar. (not only sweets, but the refined carbs too) like breads and pasta.
First, take a daily vitamin.
Depending on your meds take garlic.
buy a gralic for 39 cents, peel it down cut it up into pieces, swallow them like little pills, take with a glass of cold water. Increase you water intake.
Tea Tree Oil applied directly to the area will take away the pain and itch. Keep clothes loose and only wear white cotton undies washed in Hot water. Then iron them. I would make your hubby do the same as you could be spreading it back and forth.
I've never had a vaginal yeast infection but I used to get thrush. I was always told to eat a lot of yogurt & avoid sugar, fruit, some dairy products & yeast. Drink a lot of water & increase your fiber. I've heard you should try to wear loose fitting pants & underwear so moisture doesn't get trapped. Try looking at Candida websites.
Hopefully you'll feel better soon!

If you're getting multiple yeast infections you should see your doctor. I know it isn't the answer you were looking for, but repeat infections can be indicitive of other issues. Good luck!

Do OTC meds. not work? I agree about decrease the sugar, and eat yogurt. Also, try Probiotic Acidophilus tablets. You can get these at any drug store. I buy mine at Meijers.
