So my doctor gave me a cream for yeast infection that states right on it not to use if breastfeeding, which I am and she knew. UGH! Has anyone actually tried the yogurt solution with a yeast infection? Did it actually work? Anything else anyone suggests?

What can I do next?

A vinegar bath might also help. I think it's one cup vinegar to the bath. I've also used it directly, but the yogurt would probably be more comfortable. You have to take a bath at least once every day, twice is better, but it does work better when you first think you're getting the infection. I'm not sure how well it would work once you have a full blown infection, but it might reduce the discomfort and help some.

If you are really into home remedies these worked for me.

Eat about 1/2 cup of plain yogurt 2 times a day. You can also use the yogurt in your vagina about 2 tablespoons before bed. Make sure you use clean hands and rinse off in the morning.

Drink 1-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in water 1-2 times each day to make your body more acidic.

Peel a clove of garlic (leave it whole) and insert it in your vagina for the antifungal properties. Put some olive oil on it first if you are dry so it will slide in easier. Leave it in overnight. You will taste the garlic flavor in your mouth shortly after insertion. Try this for a couple of days.

Try one at a time to find out which one works best. The creams commonly prescribed for yeast infections are contraindicated in both pregnancy and breatfeeding. Yes it says that on the box - even the OTC creams. Good Luck!

yeast infections can be cleared up with just over the counter stuff so i would look into that. And does the package say to not use the cream if breastfeeding? Or does it say to consult a doc. if you are breastfeeding? Because if it says that then the doc gave it to you because she new it was fine. You could also just call the pharmacy they should be able to tell you if it is safe or not. (yogurt can work but i think is works best if you start eating it right when you think you might have and infection, if the infection is pretty bad then you need some cream)

Go to Vitamin Cottage and talk to one of the supplement people. There are a lot of good probiotics out there that can help bring your body back into balance. A yeast infection is usually a symptom of candida, an overgrowth of bad bacteria in the body. It can be brought on by taking antibiotics, or just having a diet that is high in refined grains or sugar. I would think that a probiotic will not affect breastfeeding, but the people at Vitamin Cottage will know more. Good luck!

PLAIN yogurt works. You can eat it and you can also put a little in your vagina. I would also recomend taking acidophilus ASAP. I got cronic yeast infections for over a year, and yes the yogurt works, but the infection can't be too bad. If you are having problems take live acidophilus 3 times a day in addition to the yogurt.
