Hi moms, i don't know how to explain this but my tree is making noise. We bought LED lights so that the lights wont get "hot" and won't burn down the tree but now i'm hearing all these noises, at first i thought it was my coffee pot but my pot was off and then i walked over to the tree and sure enough the noise is coming form there. I touched the lights and the lights are not hot, i touched the tree , branch and all and its not hot...I now turned off the xmas tree lights and i can still here it. Its sizzling . Have you guys experienced this before? Like i said, the tree isn't hot nor the lights...whats going on, i'm scared. thanks

What can I do next?

It isnt bugs! Wood changes with temp changes, humidity, it could be the sap, its nothing to worry about. Seriously. google it, but seriously dont worry. Keep it watered for safety.

Red might be right. I remember slight 'popping' sounds from live trees we had when I was little. I haven't had a live tree in about 30 years, but that could be what it is from. I do remember the huge bucket of water the tree sat in!

I just did a search and found this: http://yhoo.it/eTyCk0 The third answer about the sap sounds like the most logical answer to me. :)

YES! A week ago we heard our tree too - it's a real tree. We have new little lights, and they aren't hot. I thought maybe there were bugs in the tree munching or something. It sounded just like sizzling! I haven't heard it since, but I haven't put my ear up close to see if I hear it.

All real trees make noise. Don't ask me why because I don't remember but it is normal. My grandpa was a tree dr and he taught me all kinds of crazy things about trees. Hope that helps you feel better :-)

I decorate Trees for the holidays..

Real Tress make noises. Wood pops, branches move, especially as they settle..
Yes, they can make audible noises.. I guess outside we do not hear them because of the other sounds..

We have found that the LED lights are really safe.. To test you could turn the lights off and see if you still hear any sounds..

Is it a real tree? If so, check the water level. If it's the same, then it is sealed and isn't taking in any water, so it is probably drying out and settling. If that's the problem, just cut off a little bit off the bottom, then make sure to get it in water within one hour. :)

I have always had real trees but never had noise come from one. Good luck.

If it is a real tree there may be bugs on it. and they could be making noise. A frind of mine had a huge family of preying mantis' in hers once (there were like 200). Take a REALLY good look to make sure. hopefully it is not a big deal.

If you are using a timer, it could be that too. Good luck.

I wonder if someone has played a joke on you. A friend of mine just showed me a funny joke ornament that makes all sorts of funny noises - cricket, beeping, etc. Have you had friends over recently? Is your hubby a prankster? Perhaps check your ornaments for any you don't remember putting on the tree.

Good luck,
S.
