Xbox Kinect

I keep seeing these commercials for the XBox Kinect. We were thinking of buying a Wii for Christmas this year, but I'm very intrigued by the XBox Kinect. I like the idea of no controllers. With a 3 (almost 4) year old and a 15 month old I can see the controller getting thrown, dropped stepped on, etc. The price difference doesn't bother me too much because we would have to buy several accessories for the Wii. I LOVE the idea of actually having to get up and MOVE to play the games.
So, does any one have the XBox Kinect? Does it work like it shows in the commercials? Would my 3 year old be able to use it? Do I have to have wireless internet or subscribe to anything special to get the Netflix and ESPN features to work? Is the 4G enough or should I spring for the one with the larger memory?
Thanks in advance! :)

We bought a Kinect this weekend and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. We had debated between Kinect and Wii and I am glad we chose Kinect.

The only drawback I can see is that it is a new product and there are not as many games available. We bought the Wii a few years back when it was brand new and got rid of it because there were so few games at the time. We are really excited to see what gamemakers come up with for the Kinect. So far we just have the game Kinect Adventures which I believe comes with it. It has a few games such as Rallyball, a river rafting game and an obstacle course game. The games are easy for young children to play. The sensor is amazing! It can read all your body movements and even takes pictures of you during the game, so you get to see photos of your funny moments during the game. I did the games instead of a workout yesterday and I hurt everywhere! It is awesome cardio because you are jumping, squatting, dodging and moving your arms the whole time. I also like the idea of not having a wii-mote as I remember the kids accidentally chucking them at the tv during wii bowling.

Yes, your 3 year old can use it, with some help in setting up the game. My 3 year old does interfere with the games a bit though just because she wants to get in on the action even if it isnt her turn, but I think that is to be expected. If you get too close to the screen or too far away the game will tell you to move back so the sensor can view you better, so we often have to tell the kids to move back.

I can ask my husband about the other questions because I am not sure about whether you need wireless etc.

--My husband said definitely get the larger memory. The one with smaller memory will not be enough to hold any downloads, it will only have enough space for your profile and avatars.

Kinect is amazing!!!!! Much much better than the Wii-my boys LOVE it and say that it is way way more fun for them. It works exactly like in the commercials also. I read some reviews on it and they all say that this system is spot on-no glitches at all(and you would expect some considering the remarkable technology) Kid get SO much more exercise using kinect also. And one more thing to help you make up your mind-graphics on real 'gaming' games are much better on the XBOX. That means that games kids really like to play like the whole LEGO series (star wars, batman, Indy) will be much better on the XBox as well as sports games like Madden. And I think your 3 yo will be able to do kinect much better than the Wii-its more natural than using a controller. I don't think you have to subscribe to anything that you don't want to but you should ask at the store. Even if you don't buy it at Gamestop, that store is the best for information on video games-they would be able to help you. I do know that you can get netflix through your Xbox if you want.

We just bought the Kinect and LOVE it! I have a 3 and 5 year old. My 5 year old can control the screens, but she cannot read yet. My 3 year old cannot. Plus because he is so short, the guy on the screen will show him kneeling all of the time. My daughter started playing the Wii at 3. It is easier to play. I would try the V-Smile for their age group. I would recommend that first. Yes, we have the V-Smile too. And yes, we are video game fanatics...lol. My 3-year old knows how to turn the V-Smile on himself and has memorized what screens to go on. He just need helps with changing out the game cartridges.

Xbox Kinect is a thousand times better than Wii!! I'm not over exaggerating either. I'm not sure about the questions you asked other than that, but I'm sure you can either look on their website or call Best Buy and ask. Wii looks so remedial comapared to Kinect... I was absolutely blown away by it. My best friend's husband went out the day it came out and bought every game they had available... fun for kids and grown ups alike. It's super easy... if I can do it, anyone can ;)

We have a kinect and our 4 year old is learning to play kinectimals. We have to help him (and our 2 year sometimes gets in the way and confuses the camera). And, like the wii, you have to watch out while you are playing, or you might just bump into a little one standing beside you.
