XBOX 360 - Any Problems with Yours?

My boys were given an XBOX 360 "limited edition HALO 3" by their cousin about 18 months ago. I know this is an older version. Lately it appears to be "over heating" and giving them ONE red ring - not two or three - from what I understand they are the "red rings of death" meaning the XBOX may be on its last legs....

So OUTSIDE of buying a new XBOX - what have you done to prolong the life of your XBOX?

thanks!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

THANK YOU!!! We took the XBOX apart - holy smokes batman!!! The dust bunnies were horrible!! Bob is putting it back together now...we'll see if that worked!!!

I will be contact Microsoft to see what they can do as well!! I found a TON of "non-working" XBOXs on ebay for parts....wow...didn't realize it was that bad!!

My son's actually got the Blue Ring of Death which is apparently super duper serious, but we fixed it.
You can actually google and find a lot of information about it online.
One thing you definitely have to be careful about is them overheating. When my son first got his, it overheated a lot so you need to give them a break once in a while.
My son will be home in a little while and I'll ask him about it for you.

He's had his xbox for years.

My boys have an older model that got the rings. There are tons of things to try if you google. I know they went online and did some of the things they found there, but I'm not sure what, to fix a couple of things. After they got it, secondhand from a friend, it got the three rings and I called XBOX and they sent a prepaid label for us to send it in and they sent us a refurbished one immediately for free, and it has worked great since. If you don't want to mess with it, but don't want to buy a new one, I think they will fix yours for $99 as sort of a compromise. If it were me, I would call first to see if you can get it fixed for free, especially if you are good at negotiating :)

You can contact Xbox through the website and they will send you a prepaid pox to send your xbox into them and they will fix it for you for free and send it back to you in about a week or two. I've done it and people I know too. Its a great thing they do.

You have to keep it in an open area, so not in a cabinet, and the vented stand is also a good idea. Also, we bought a small fan and had it blow straight onto the xbox360 while it was in use. You can also have it replaced if it is still under warranty, contact xbox. We had to replace ours three times. Only one time it was not under warranty, that was the old xbox so that's when we got the 360.

Anyone remember Mario Bros and the Nintendo back in the day? We had to take the game out and blow on it!

we called the company and told them what was going on. now we bought ours new. it came with a warrentee. they faxed us a shipping label we shipped it to them and they shipped us a new one. that was about 4 years ago. it was almost a year old at the time. (we got it at thanksgiving one year and the next year right before thanksgiving we got the red ring of death) we have not had a problem since then. but it can be fixed

if it's over heating then you can get a stand that it sits on and sends air up into it. Make sure there is enough space on all sides of the unit to vent. Dust around it regularly ( once a month) , use canned air to blow out the vents.
Depending on what section of the ring is red will give you different error message. Check the 360 forums for error message meanings.
the " red ring of death" is 1,3 and 4 lit and it won't turn on.

I assume it doesn't overheat when they first turn it on, but maybe after 10-20 minutes of play? If so, it could be dusty. Try using a can of compressed air on the fins in the back and clear it out.

Otherwise, you could contact Xbox, and if it's under warranty, they will replace it (happened with my brother), but if not, do what I Love My Boys said. Hope you figure it out!

You should be able to send it to the company and have them fix it. My step son had trouble with two different systems (yes I said two, his dad spoils him) and they fixed both. I think he only had to pay for the shipping. It would be worth it to call the company or email and see what they say. They don't want anyone giving them bad reviews.

Not sure but generally if you google the issue you get a mess of hits.

Kind of hoping ours makes it a bit longer than a couple years.
