The "responsible" me would say to save it. But it's been a hard couple of years for my family and I would be very inclined to take the kids on a vacation.
What would you do with $3000 if you didn't need it to pay bills or upgrade the house?
The "responsible" me would say to save it. But it's been a hard couple of years for my family and I would be very inclined to take the kids on a vacation.
My first impulse is "vacation" but I'd likely put it towards college funds or retirement or the rainy day fund if it is running a little low.
Spend half on something for the family(vaca,tv, video games, new comp) put the other half in savings for any potenital emergencies!!
Open a savings account.
Take a vacation with my family and save the rest.
vacation with half, invest the rest
we don't have credit card debt - we are a cash only family..
ooohhhhhh if I had $3K? I think I would put it towards a new car - trade mine in and combine the Trade in Value and the $3K - I could get nice newer car!!
That or fly to California to see my parents...oooohhh things that make you go hmmmmm....
My husband is turning 50 in August - maybe a trip to Fenway Park????
Put it into savings or, if you already have a pretty good savings account already, go use it for a European vacation.
Go on vacation!

Go on vacation!
Are you giving me $3000? How nice. I'll take you out for dinner. hehe
I would put it in a cd or our mutual funds. But I'm thinking some University is going to own me come next year so probably to the college fund.
Take a small vacation and place the rest of it in savings.
use some to do something fun with my family, then find someone who needed it more than I did, and help them out
Put $1000 in each of my girls college funds or use it for a fun summer vacation!
Ah!! wow that would be so awesome! my quick answer is lasik, but i woudl probably be more practical.
Spend 20 percent on a long weekend vacation and put the rest in a savings account for future weekend vacations. If you do 20 percent you can get 5 weekend vacations to use however frequently you would need. You could easily take the kids to the McDonald observatory and Monahans state Park (Sand Dunes) and stay at Balmorhea State Park. If you are not familiar with Balmorhea, it has a natural spring feed swimming pool. The water is totally clear and you are swimming with the fish that are in the spring. The spring feeds into the pool on one side and out of the other.
tithe 10%, save 10%, invest 5%, mini vacation, buy a new nikon camera.
Enjoy!
I would pay off my credit card and use the left over for my car payment. In a perfect world where I didn't have any bills and the house was perfect ( I can't even imagine :)) I would save half for a rainy day and the other half for a mini much needed vacation for the family. Have fun with it!
Sensible- invest or put in savings. But honestly I would blow it and enjoy every minute of it! I've never been able to do that! What fun
Give- then save- then spend some
put 1,000 down payment on a disney trip and rest in savings account
I find that when we come up with extra money, something is going to happen that we will need it. I like to think that it's God taking care of the details in our lives that we don't know about.
I would give 10% ($300) to a local charity and use $1000-$1100 for a cruise out of Galveston with my husband and save the rest.
What a fun question!
The sensilbe answer is to put in the bank, but I would take a trip.
save it, you never know what tomorrow will bring you...
I assume you want us to spend it, I'd take the family on a vacation, to the beach in the summer and to ski in the winter, Family Vacations were a big thing for me as a kid, and I don't have the means to do that for my kids, but those are some of my favorite memories of my childhood, and I'd want my kids to have memories like that too!
Vacation, or plastic surgury.
Some sort of family vacation or trip...OR...save it for the holidays and back to school shopping.
A weekend family trip.
Vacation! Of course, setting some aside for college or retirement is smart too, but I would plan a great vacation.
Put it in savings and count your blessings.
:)
L.
I'd buy a Louis Vuitton purse! The $1520 one!!!
And a pair of sunglasses too!
But, reality would set in and I'd pay off some credit card bills! :(
I would blow it on a family vacation, my family has been struggling so bad these last few years, we deserve to go somewhere. Maybe DIsney, or a cruise. Honestly my 10 yr old just wants to go on a plane. Maybe I would fly her to grandmas.
Fun question.
1) G to Disney, buy yearly passes for the family to Disney, Busch Gardens, The Zoo, Aquarium and Sea World.
2) Second option would be to save it.
3) Third would be to take out family to visit my Husband's family in the Czech Republic and visit where I used to live in Germany... sadly tho - $3K will not even cover the plane fare.
Go on a fabulous trip with my family! Then if any was left over, I would invest it so it would build and generate alot of interest.
You find someone that you can help even if just a little, doesn't mean you have to spend the entire $3,000 it means that you first thank God for the blessing, you spread that around, pay it forward as you might think and then you can put a little away and spend a little on the family. It's a blessing but with the economy and way things are right now you have to know things can change on a dime. So be grateful, don't question a blessing but do share it and make sure that you really are grateful.
Go on a nice vacation without my kids.
i would take a really nice 7 day cruise out of Galveston. I have gone on 2 and LOVED them.
Take a family trip. If all our bills were paid, then we have cars that are already paid off and I'd really cherish the family time more than just about anything. I know that our "under one roof" days are numbered with the older kids (one isn't a kid anymore and will likely move out next year) and the memories would be priceless.
I would put it towards a European Trip for my husband and myself...oooooh could we make it $30,000 and I would be packing my bags....lololol
I would most definitely invest it in a mutual fund.
Put it into savings account or open a CD
Put $1500 in savings for "just in case" and take my hubby, daughter, sisters & parents on a little getaway with the rest. Somewhere not too far away but that we could all get away for a weekend & have a nice time. How about you?
Put it in the bank for a rainy day.
We're being so practical!
As long as this is just a dream, I would take my daughter on a trip somewhere, and then go clothes shopping (it's been a long time!).
At the end of the day, it's not a lot of money. I'd allocate toward savings & small family vacation (gotta have a little fun, right?).
buy a new mattress! Our sucks.
.
Put it into savings or IRA account for retirement.
I would put it aside for when you do have to pay bills or update/upgrade the house!
A haircut, a pedicure, sushi, some new clothes, new glasses for the hubby, new shoes, and trips to Disneyland, Seaworld, and Legoland. The rest would go into savings.
I would split it up between my kids bank accounts.
OOOHHH!!!! How I would absolutely LOVE to answer this question!!! But, alas, I may offend someone...
so,I will say that I would donate it to a homeless shelter...unless, of course, that BOTHERS people. I dont want to offend anybody.
Good Luck!!! and may you find your answer.... (the right one according to the populas)
We are savers so we would save it. We don't have debt, house is in great shape, thre is nothing we really "need" so we'd save it.
We'd either put it in our regualr savings account, use it for the IRA or purchase some stock.
Save it to offset direct deposit into our HSA account.. to pay for braces for our son.
I used my financial aid to pay bills in advance. When it got close to the end of the semester I didn't have to worry about running out of money to pay. I also bought food storage, food we eat, not odd stuff that we don't normally use. Things like cereal, powdered milk, sugar, canned stuff that can be eaten right out of the can. If you were to have storm damage and had to live several days without electricity it would be handy to have. My favorite author for being prepared for an emergency is Peggy Layton. Her degree is in Home Economics and she knows that people eat normal food. Her books are easy to read, informative, and down to earth. I don't have to go out and spend thousands of dollars on a years supply. Just track what foods we eat for a couple of months then start buying a few things extra each month. Rotating foods is also a must, you want to use the oldest first.
I would do a family vacation if the kids were old enough to remember it and participate fully. If they are too young then perhaps I'd put some in savings to start a fund for a great vacation in the next few years.Saving money is not always a bad thing to do. What if the main provider for your family lost their job next week, or a storm took out the main part of your business area? Having a bit of cash on hand is a good thing when power is out and ATM machines don't work.
tell my boyfriend to take a week off work to just lay around! he's the sole breadwinner and never complains!
Buy a car. I would probably have to add some of my own money to get a decent one... I don't have one, and I HATE driving Hubby's Yucon. (Technically, it's OUR Yucon... but I hate it... so I tell him it's his. lol) If I had a car, life would be sooo much easier for me! Not to mention the gas we could save driving it around together instead of the gas guzzler that we can't afford to get rid of...
Wow I can totally relate! When we receive a windfall the two spending categories of highest priority are: pay off credit cards and make the house better. But since we are still way behind in both categories, I would splurge on about $500 and save the rest. Don't forget the income taxes payable if you can't hide it!
I'd pay someone to put in the fence that my husband has been procrastinating installing! I would also hire a landscaper!
Put it in savings account for the kids.
my answer is kind of boring, but I would save or invest it. I look forward to the day that I can work part time and enjoy my life, so I save/invest every penny I can!
downpaymnt FOR a house! can't wait for that day....one day.... :)
I'd put it down on a new vehicle for our son. He would love that. (o:
