Since I don't know if you are stuck writing something now, or looking for something, it makes it a bit difficult.........

But, go to a park, and just walk around, watch people in the park.........dogs, squirrels whatever to changed your mindset for a bit.

You can also walk a mall......watching people can be very intriguing. How they interact with each other, kids, etc.

If you like animals, go to a pet store, or a dog park...........a circus......

Sometimes, just a good ole night out on the town with the girls is what you need........just have fun, enjoy and forget everything else.........

I found that not only is the tape recorder a great idea, but I've even taken my camera and taken pictures of something, even if I didn't know why, and kept a folder of those pics near me.......sometimes it sparks something I must have seen originally and didn't know it.

Good Luck and I'm sure you'll be fine in no time. Take care.

Go on a hike, by yourself. It can be really mind clearing. Since you are from NJ too, Cheesequake or Holdmel parks are a great place to go.

Walk away from your keyboard. Get a small voice recorder and keep it with you always. Get away from your current surroundings and do something that inspires you. If you know what you want to write about - go to a place where you will be in the middle of it. Record your observations. If you don't know what you want to write about then go somewhere that fills you up. Go camping or go sit in a busy coffee shop. Be "in the moment" observe your surroundings and do some people watching. As ideas come to you record them and let them go. Let the ideas just kind of marinate. You might find while taking a shower, or lying on your back in a park looking up at the sky that you all of a sudden have the beginnings of an idea forming. Voice record that sucker and all the random other things that are running through your head. Don't go back to your keyboard until you feel excited about it. When you feel like you have so much to say that you can't wait to get it on paper. Once you start it all comes pouring out like a waterfall.

I agree with those who say just write, anything, stream of consciousness, journal, what you would say to the grocer. I also find it helpful to read something that you consider well written; I find that gets juices flowing too.
Best of luck!
