I do like them. I didn't know they had them at family dollar. JC Penney has them also but they are not as cheap; great variety though.
I have to post this as a question for it not to get yanked. but I bought some thermal curtains the other day. put them up my house is 73* and my air conditioner is not running. It is almost 100* outside. I have a cieling fan in every room but the front room and a fan in every room. Put up my thermal curtains and the house is 73 with no ac running. before that it stayed at a cosistant 83* with the ac not shutting off. So have you thought about thermal curtains? And I have really cheap windows in my apartment. Could you imagine what you could save if you had good curtains? Just had to share. They are $10 a panel. I spent about $50 for curtains and rods.
edit I got mine at family dollar on clearance for $6 a piece for those who have one. I know wal mart sells them too.

Thanks for sharing. I live in Tucson AZ and its 100+ here. My ac is at 80 and my bill was $150 last month! Question: Do the cutains make it dark?
I need sunshine or i'd sleep all day.
Thermal curtains are just as good keeping a house warmer in winter as they are keeping it cooler in summer.
The same caulking and checking weather/thermal seals on doors/windows you do in the fall will help you all through the year.
We've always known this.
Most of the time we get curtains/shades at JCPenny's
hmmm...my house is about 65 right now....I live in Seattle! IF I had that issue your info would be a godsend.

GREAT D.! thanks for the info.
Awesome, I'm all about saving energy and $$$$
Where did you get them?
heard of them.....thanks for the info!
im very interested....i live in houston!
Interesting! Thank you!
Our apartment gets sooo hot! Maybe this will help, along with having fans and what not on.
Thanks!
I can't even imagine living in an inefficient apartment. I was going to say nothing works like new windows but who would do that to an apartment.
That is cool that those window shades work.
Never even thought of that?? Good idea, our bedrooms are always around 84°C - GROSS !
where did you get them?
I'm in Houston too and hot hot. I didn't know that Family Dollar has thermal curtains, I did see them at Walmart. I bought a panel that goes behind existing curtains for my girls' room at Big Lots for only $5! To answer the question, yes it makes it dark in the room, as it filters out the light which creates heat.
I love natural lighting but I think that we'll survive. :) We don't spend a lot of time in our bedrooms, so having thermal curtains in the bedrooms at the very least will help. That way the bedrooms will be cooler when we go to bed at night and won't have to turn the air cooler to sleep.
Another trick is a dehumidifier. If the air is dryer it will feel cooler. Don't run the oven, get a toaster oven if you really need to, and maybe a bread machine.
Oh Lord D. - you are like an angel sent from above.
My AC is running constantly and just not cooling - I do think it needs a freon bump and plan to get one on Monday, but, I love your idea. I have never heard of them before.
I have a Family Dollar store near by - when I can unstick myself from my chair I will go see if they have them.
Hugs and smooches and more hugs
God Bless
