We booked a week long Disney trip in Orlando for September 14th. I have a daughter who is too young for the MMR vaccine and there's an outbreak in the Tampa region of Florida right now (nine cases I believe). We checked with her doctor who said they only vaccinated at 15 months (she will be 12 months in october). It's early in the measles reporting so I assume there will be more cases although it's technically not the Orlando area (nearby though). I don't know if we will be refunded anything but would you cancel over this? I have an older son who was so excited for this and I had wanted to take my daughter on rides because babies are allowed on several of them.

There are about 2.7 million people living in the Tampa Bay are, and only 9 have the measles. That is 0.0003%! That means that 99.9997% DON'T have the measles.
Those ridiculously good odds.
I would still go. If you are concerned, why not bring someone else with you and ask them to stay in the hotel with the baby?
While I think there is NO additional risk to your baby due to some cases of the measles in Tampa, I do think you will have a better time on the trip without having to her along to the parks. I'd vote for leaving her with doting grandparents/aunts/uncles or bringing a trustworthy cousin/aunt along to babysit while you, your husband, and your son go enjoy the rides. Definitely don't cancel!
Tampa is not "nearby" Orlando. It's a 2 hour drive 80+ miles across the state. In parts of the country like New England, you can drive through 3 states in the same amount of time it takes to get from Tampa to Orlando.

Why would you book a trip to Disneyworld with 1 year old? It boggles my mind when people pay THOUSANDS of dollars to go to Disneyworld with children who will NOT remember the trip nor will the parents be able to thoroughly enjoy the trip and the rides because one will be staying with the stroller.
You've already paid for it. Go. The chances of her getting sick are low. Ensure you wipe things down before you use them and go.
What would I do? I would leave my 1 year old with a trusted family member and go on the trip.
Can you leave the baby home with someone? Or maybe you or your husband stays home with the baby and the other takes the older son? I don't really see a need to cancel the trip for the whole family just because one member is at risk.
Can you leave your daughter with grandma for the week and go enjoy special time with your son?
At her age, it’s not going to be fun and she won’t remember it whereas your son will.
If that’s not an option. See if you have any options for rescheduling or take your chances. It’s likely all will be fine if she goes but I understand your concern.
I would go. We took our son when he was age 5 and our daughter was a baby. My husband had a work trip to Orlando, so we tagged along. We had fun. We went again when the kids were 11 and 5 and had MUCH more fun. A blast!! Just don't let strangers touch your 1 year old. Wash hands often. Most people at Disneyworld are tourists flying in from out of town anyway. Go and have fun, but definitely go again when your kids are older.
Leaving the baby home with a family member sounds like a good solution to your dilemma.
I wouldn't want to disappoint your older son. I like the idea of leaving the baby with a trusted family member and taking just your older son. Believe me, it will make things SO much easier if you didn't take the baby with you (with or without the measles outbreak). It's not easy even for us with my younger being 3.5, and we go to Disneyland every month and have the routine down pat!
Having traveled to Disney myself, I think one of the smarter decisions I made was to leave our then just under 3 yr old at home and our then 10 and 12 yr old had a blast without worrying about breaking for naps, figuring out who would go on the rides and who would stay with the toddler, etc. I know that isn't the question you asked, but I just thought I would throw that out there.

NO. I would not cancel. I wouldn't bring my one year to any theme park. In my opinion, it's a waste of money and just too much of a hassle.
I'm not paying $100 a day so I can stand and watch my spouse and my older kids ride rides and then switch out with my spouse. A one year old will NOT even remember this trip.
Get a trusted family friend to care for your one year old and go and have fun and make memories with your older son.
Nor would I flip out over a break out of less than 20 people. Yes, measles is preventable. However, I'm not going to rush out and give my child the vaccine so I can feel better about going to disneyworld.
Take your kids when they are like 5 and 7, when they will remember the trip and be able to ride more rides.

I agree with others, a one-year-old has no business at a theme park, not only is it a waste of money, but there are too many germs, the baby cannot ride most rides, won't remember anything, and would be better off staying in a cleaner environment, plus then both parents cannot enjoy the rides with the older child, and the older child may want to experience the rides with both parents. Save your money. Leave the theme park visit with the baby for the future, for when she is old enough to enjoy and appreciate it, in the meantime go with your older son and enjoy yourselves. I was about 5 when I went to Disney World for the first time, I remembered maybe half of the rides and layout, if that's of any help.

Also, the CDC supports this - on their web site it says that there is no current outbreak in the US.
There have also been a few cases of MMR this year in your state of Louisiana.
At any point in time there’s risk - taking a walk, driving, swimming, getting the flu etc. you can’t live your life, huddle at home in fear. Even then, an airplane could fall out of the sky on to your house killing you, which incidents of that have happened several times.
I’ve been to Disney several times with my kids when they were various ages (including when my son was 6 months old, and too young for the MMR, and more than likely there was some sort of disease there that he hadn’t been vaccinated for), and it’s always been memorable and great times. You can indeed take your small child on some of the rides which is awesome. Plus, although very hot right now, school is back in, so you shouldn’t have the crowds.
