For the people saying they do not like to text or have trouble with the little letters etc on their phones. woud you like to learn how to text using your voice? This is a way for you to text, but you will not have to worry about typing it in yourself.

If youcrell phone has the capability, you literally push the little micorphone icon and speak into it.. It will then write in your message.

If you do not know if this works on your phone, ask a teenager or ask the salespeople at your cell phone provider. Just pop in and they will gladly show you.

I learned from a teenage neighbor. I asked her to show me how to do this on my "unfancy" cell phone. Now I have shown lots of people my age and older how to use it. It is awesome since I can hardly see the digits on my cell phone.. I also hate text speak..

How do you learn about how to use the current techmology? Remote controls, for the TV. The cable, Roku, new cars, laptop, ipad...?
If my Husband or daughter cannot explain it to me, I find a teenager.. They love sharing their knowledge.

What can I do next?

Hehehe, my last teenager will be going away to school year after next. Then I will have to go out in the street and solicit them, I guess.

But yes, I have Siri you know, to send texts for me, but she creeps me out.

I love to text!

:)

L., Very nice post :) If it wasn't for my 10 yr old son, I'd be lost with all the new tech.

LOL L. as much as I was going to miss my son's company when he went off to college I was actually MORE worried about missing his on call, in house tech support!!!
Funny, his absence has actually made me "smarter" because I now have to stop and figure things out on my own :-)

What a great suggestion, L.. I'll keep it in mind if we ever upgrade to a more 'intelligent' phone.

My last phone did not have the capability but I could download an App that converted voice to text. It would also read my texts to me if I wanted. I'll admit it was a bit cumbersome.

The phone I just returned had it built in, but it's accuracy was so off that we howled at some of its translations. (Of course that could have been because an 8 year old was speaking into it!)

My newest phone has a 'Swype' key...I need a teenager to explain that one to me or I need to find a YouTube tutorial because I can't ask my niece this time.

you are so right! my husband and SIL are always talking about how they use their voice-to-text but i never do because it feels like one more overwhelming techie thing to learn.
my phone DOESN'T have that particular bit of technology, but teenagers are excellent tech trainers.

Well I am 27 so when I was in my teens I was already interested in all this so of course I picked up on it. But now because I don't like certain things about it I purposely teach myself how to use things. Like many say you gotta roll with the times...so if there is a new gadget I learn how to use it. BUT because technology or any type of screen and being constantly connected is starting to stress me out I purposely step away from screens. That is why I hate texting and all that.

My 11 year-old does this all the time. She doesn't type well, and has difficulty with spelling. Voice recognition will be used more and more, IMO, as it's faster than typing for most people.
