Worried About 9Yr Olds Teeth

I just noticed tonight that my son has a bluish line running across the top of his gum. He has a very crowded mouth and we've been told he will need braces. The overcrowding has caused the two front teeth to push forward. Im wondering if anyone else has experienced this, im hoping its just bruising. I plan on calling his dentist tomorrow

What can I do next?

It could be as simple and normal as a visible vein. Sometimes people have a pigment issue, much like with other skin, which is a cosmetic concern. Bluish gums can also be a result of lead poisoning, which can be determined with a blood test. Similar lines can happen with prolonged exposures to other elements. Don't panic, do investigate.

Not to scare you, but that could be a Burton line, which is a sign of lead poisoning. I would check with your ped. asap.

If his mouth is that crowded the dentist should already have devices in his mouth to start shaping it the way it needs to be. Whether that is to increase the size of his jaws or the width of the roof of his mouth.

Kids that have crowded mouths often just have teeth removed the fit for braces by age 9...they "do" put them on later but most of our dentist around here do it by age 9, 10 at the latest.
