Working Out Years After C-section

I have had 2 C-sections and my family has recenty joined the local YMCA. We love it and have been working out 5-7 days a week. The question I have is every time I do abdominal isolated exercise I feel like my musles are pulling on the scar tissue and it is a weird feeling like it is going to snap. Does anyone else have these weird sensations when working these muscles? Thanks for your input.

What can I do next?

I would deff. ask your dr. i had one c-section and she told me that if it hurt after one year then i should tell her. there are times it is tender and I did have a lot of problems and a slow recovery but she said tenderness is okay at times. I dont really work out much, bc daughter keeps me so busy lol, but the little I do get to do it is not too bad. please ask your dr. and good luck working out, glad you are having fun.

It is normal, your scar is not going to reopen especially seeing as it has been years since the last c-section. I started working out 2 months post op first jogging and then onto crunches, etc. and nothing ever happened to me. If you are really concerned call your gynecologist and see what he/she has to say, my guess is they are going to tell you exactly what I told you. The pulling you are feeling is from the scar tissue.

The area feels strange, but doesn't hurt. If it hurts, call your doctor. The feeling is because during the C-section the doctor cut through your abdominal muscles and they are very weak as a result. The feeling should began to go away as your abs get stronger.

Talk to your doc. I had one in 1995 and did not remember any pain like that from it. I had another in July and some pains like needles very early on like first 2 months maybe. Nothing since. I work out daily and do intensive ab work. My doc told me to it it hard from being cleared on as a way to help with scar tissue. It sounds like that to me

I think you are just using muscles you never used. I have had 15 major
abdominal surgeries, work out doing abdominal exercises and never
had that happen. Also have two ostomies. Keep on plugging.

I have only had one c-section (been three years since I had it) and it dose not hurt when I exercise like you described (just the burn from a normal workout which is felt all over). I do yoga, situps, pushups, light weight lifting, and running. Defiantly talk to your doctor about it and make sure everything is ok and things have healed correctly (might need a ultrasound to see the inside, and I would insist that the check over is more then a touch the outside scar area because that does not always tell you what is going on inside).

Usually when there is such discomfort when exercising there is something that needs to be looked into. A good work out might leave your muscles a little sore but never pulling, snapping, hurtful feeling... also make sure you are doing the exercises correctly because you can feel the "bad pain" when any exercise is done incorrectly.

Hi! I have had 2 C-Sections as well to! My last one almost 3 years ago and sometimes if I sit up the wrong way I feel something like stabbing me on my one side by my incision area! I dont know what it is but gonna ask my Dr. next month. It could be scar tissue on the muscles or your muscles stretching out that havent been worked! :O)

YUP! I have the same thing. My Dr. said that its normal and ok. It does get better, or less...the more you work. Mine sometimes would feel like they were burning too. Hope that helps!
