Working Moms: How Do You Do It - Literally, How Do You Do It?

My mom was a single working mom and I went to daycare. As others have said, the daycare van picked me up and she picked me up from daycare when she got off. I have a friend that always had her daughter in a school with programing after school until 5:30. That way her homework etc was usually done by the time she picked her up. She had her daughter in HISD and she called the school a magnet school. Her daughter loved that and it was very low cost compared to daycare. Best wishes!!

Our schools have after school programs on campus and then their are community centers and day cares that will pick up.

There are sometimes moms that stay home that will care for kids each day in their homes. Ask at the elementary school what do most working parents do.

My sister hired a college girl to pick up her kids, give them a snack, and help them with home work. Sometimes she would even start dinner.

We live in Austin so there are a ton of college kids looking for part time work.

All of the large daycare centers in our area have vans that pick kids up from school and take them to the daycare. They also help them with homework and provide a snack. My parents were teachers so we were on the same schedule. They would also take home our neighbor's kids and they would stay with us until thier mom got home from work. You may be lucky enough to work out a deal like that with a neighbor.

Have you considered returning to work part time? That has worked wonderfully for us, I'm one of the fortunate ones who can work outside the home on a part time basis. My son's school lets out at 2:45 and I get off work at 2:00pm. That gives me plenty of time to get to the school to pick him up.
But yes, most schools have transportation to a daycare facility after school lets out.
Afterschool care can get expensive too.

I use the daycare. They take my son to school and pick him up. When he gets to daycare they give them a snack & if time allows help him start his homework. He's in kindertarten so not too much homework other than writing name, practicing numbers & letters etc. It works out perfect & I trust them.

My kids are not in school but I do work. Most daycare's have vans that pick kids up at school and bring them back to the daycare. Also, some elementary schools have after school programs in which case kids in these programs stay at school- ussually in the gym or cafateria and do their homework and there are ussually activites. It just depends on your area. There is also ussually morning care and transportation to school if you have to go to work before your child goes to school. I'd say if you daughter is only 22 months you have a ways to go :)

wish i could help but i was able to pull my daughter out of daycare a year before she started school because i was doing so well with my home business that i left my job ...so i never had to do that juggle act...
i do think many daycares offer a pick-up service with a company van...

I work 7 to 4 with an hr lunch. I drop her off at the daycare at 630 they feed her and take her to school. After school they pick her up and give an afternoon snack and do homework (I told them that she can't do her homework there that is the time we spend together but thats me). My payment is $114. every other week. I'm very happy with them. My daughter has been there since she was 3. It took weeks for me to find a daycare that she and I liked. Good Luck.

i am a single mom of 3 kids, ages 9. 4 and 3 and it's hard sometimes but you just do what needs to be done. i was a sahm for 2 years and wondered how i did it before. now that there is 3 of them, i wonder how i still get everything done. but it all gets done and i love teaching, so that is all that matters. my advice to you would be to just find something you are comfortable with, you have great suggestions here and give it some time. plus you have time on your side if you are planning on waiting til your daughter is in school before you go back. she isn't even 2 yet! it'll all work out before then. good luck to you and i hope it helped!
