HI Moms,
I am a mother of a 3 year old little girl and 3 step kids to be (10 yo girl, 13 yo boy, and 15 yo girl). I am currently working full time M-F and am desperatly trying to figure out how I can be at home more with my kiddos. I was wondering if any of you have had any good experience with working at home doing the customer service incoming calls or data entry etc. I have worked in the clerical end of the medical field for about 8 years but am not a certified biller or anyhting. I have found tons of info online but it is a bit overwhelming and hard to know who you can trust.
My other issue is that I am finding that a lot of companies do not accept sattelite internet. Our internet is fast but unfortunately it is through a sattelite provider.
Any input you can give would be extremely appreciated.
Thanks
T.

If you have to pay to get the info - it's a scam.

talk with your boss and see if you can work from home two days a week - however, keep in mind that you are WORKING!!!

When I work from home - I get up and shower and get dressed - if I slack - it's because I wasn't mentally in the game and prepared for work. It's really easy to get caught up in everything - laundry, cleaning, etc. you need to pick a space that is for WORK ONLY - a room, office, etc. and when you are there - NO ONE can bother you unless it's an emergency.

Companies like Deer Park water and other chains like that - do have people who work from home - they have a dedicated computer and phone line and take calls that way.

Craigslist also has positions for people who want to telecommute. Some may request that you spend the first few weeks in their office so they can meet you and train you. Otherwise - you are good to go.

Bottom line - if they expect you to pay for training or to get the information - it's a scam.

Check out the site www.wahm.com for some great articles about the realities of working from home.

Keep in mind that working from home doesn't really equate to more time with your kids. You'll be working a job, so you will still need childcare of some sort. Most employers will not be keen on you watching your kids and working at the same time (and unless you're doing something like party sales, you need devoted work time just like any other job).

I have worked from home for nine years now as a freelance writer. I love it and it does allow me to customize my work hours as a parent. However, my work time is exclusively work time -- my kids are in school, camp or daycare while I work.

Hi, I just have a comment on the satellite internet. Most companies will have you connect to their systems via VPN and this is why the satellite internet doesn't work very well. I have been working from home for a few years now and had satellite internet for the first two weeks and it took almost two hours each morning to login...and forget about conferencing my computer with anyone. I switched to DSL and it works fine with VPN.

Hi. I began working with a company (I'm a stay at home mom) and this is a great opportunity. You pretty much work your own hours. I do simple advertising for a wellness company using my phone and computer. It also gives a great residual income (as a friend of mine is out of state for 4 months because she has been doing this for 5 years and her income is earned even while she is away). If you are interested in more info. contact me at http://www.helping-moms.com. I love this job and love to share it with other moms.

I am a work at home mother, I am a Pampered Chef consultant. I really like it, you decide your hours, and what days you want to work and how much you want to work. If you like cooking, or like making budget friendly family meals, you should look into Pampered Chef. you could check out my website: www.pamperedchef.biz/AngelaAndrsn

I noticed one mama was very skeptical of anything that you have to "pay."

I am an Independent Distributor in an MLM and I absolutely did pay to have my own Distributorship. It is NOT always a scam when money is involved. What I do is reputable and has been around for over 50 years. I earn!

That said, I did do customer service calls many many years ago. It was boring to me, and kind of nerve racking. I didn't make much, but I did get paid. Just thoroughly check out whatever company you are interested in.
