Okay, so I am like the happiest momma in the world at this moment. One of my 8 month old twins just said MAMA, 2 TIMES for the first time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It made me sooooo happy, of course. But a little more so because my oldest cant say mama, he calls me nana or nonny. They were all born with cleft lip and palate, our oldest was much more severe than the twins. So of course my oldest has a lot of speech delays and issues, thank God we have a wonderful speech therapist who he loves and he learns so much and has made huge leaps the past 6 months. Dont get me wrong, I love to hear nana or nonny too, but to hear a mama, oh man that was super cool. So since i dont want this deleted, i'll as a question. When did you start hearing mama or dada for you dads on here?

What can I do next?

Oh my that's wonderful! My mom didn't hear mama from me till I was nearly 3 (and for the same reason!) so I kinda know how you feel from what she has told me about the first time she heard it. (My little brother said it shortly after I did.)

I was at work and my babysitter called. She had never called me at work before, so I was worried. She told me she had something she wanted me to hear. She held the phone up to my first born (my third child now) and she's just babbling away and I hear my sitter say "It's M.." and suddenly my 11 month old says "MAMAMAMAMAMAMA" I started crying! It was the most beautiful thing I'd ever heard.

My littlest one has been saying "dada" directed at my husband since she was about seven months old. Lucky him. She started saying "Mommy" just this month...15 months! Of course, it's so cute because it's so clear..."Mommm-meeee" and I love it...

...but Dada was her first word, followed by
...apple...banana...baby...ball...moo...peek-a-boo....I naughty....

...and then Mommy. :)

But oh, congratulations! I am happy for you!!! :)

That's wonderful!!! Congrats!
My oldest didn't say "mama" until after a year old. He said "dada" around 9 months. My youngest is saying "mama" already and he's 5 months. He is a HUGE jabberer though. He obviously has no clue what "mama" means. ;)

Our youngest was sooo funny - her older sister's name is Sami so she kept saying MYAMI & I couldn't figure out what the %^$$##@ she was saying & then we were at her library with Sami's class one day when Haley was just about 9 months old and she said it. The whole class figured out that she was calling "my Sami"! It was awesome that she said her name b/c my girls are almost 6 yrs apart & Sami had a real hard time adjusting to Haley (and still is!) but she did think that was really cool that she said her name first! Congrats on the milestone!!!!

Ah, that made my night. What a great story.

And... is it horrible to admit I have no idea when my twin girls started saying mama? They're 4 and I simply can not remember that first year... I think I blanked it all out due to lack of sleep. =)
