Humidifiers and Aquafor can help. So can Eucerin. Avoiding using soap or hot water in bathing can help, too. Good luck!
My little girl, (almost 18 months) has the worst dry skin I have seen on anyone. Especially her legs, they are bright red and feel like sandpaper, with bumps all over (not scales) I know it has to be painful and itchy for her, and I'm sure it stings when she does get lotion on. I have tried all kinds of lotions and creams over the past week, and as soon as I am done with one leg, the other has absorbed all the lotion and I need to put it on the first again and then back to the second. Her stomach, back and cheeks are really dry too but not as bad as her legs. Is there anything anyone has used on their children that actually works?

All 3 of my kids have this and the only thing that has worked that isn't a prescription is Extra Emollient Night Cream by Mary Kay.
you need an ointment...try auquafor. Much heavier than a cream and will not absorn as easily.
Have you tried putting a humidifier in her room and throughout your house?
Use Extra Virgin Olive Oil, mine gets REALLY bad and that is what soothes it ... get a cheap set or two of pajamas you do not mind getting messed up ... do the bath thing, extra sensitive no fragrance stuff, or just use baking soda in the water ... then take some EVOO and rub on her skin (not a ton you are not greasing up the bird for turkey day) get the jams on and do this nightly until her skin recovers and then every other night and then do it as her skin needs it I have to do it about twice a week now! Oh and for mommy use it to shave with OHHH la la nice clean and smooth shave! That's what the Italians do.
My little guy has really dry skin, too. He'd get the same bright red patches and bumps. His ped gave us a rx for Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP, .1%. I put a thin layer just on the red areas & then Aquaphor all over. It really helps! I tried just the Aquaphor, but it didn't heal the areas that were really bad. A few applications of this cream helps heal it, and then Aquaphor can keep it under control. Good luck! (Also, I've started using the Walmart generic for Aquaphor & it seems to work just as good.)
Our dr suggested Aveeno oatmeal bath and lotions, we used them and they were good but the bad skin really never goes away for my son until summer.
Both my boys get it, my little one gets scaly patches, exzema, and my older gets the bumps like your daughter. I use Aquaphor and vaseline, and it usually doesn't get better until the weather starts to warm up. I have also heard to have them bathe in Aveeno. I actually went to the doctor and got an exzema cream for my little one, so that may be your best bet or at least check it out with your doctor.
Sounds like she has eczema, and no regular lotion will be able to penetrate the hard skin on top. She needs constant moisturization with something heavy duty like vaseline, aquaphor, or a beeswax based natural product. Use it 2-4 times a day and within three minutes of bathing. Bath her daily (it's the only chance her skin will have to absorb any moisture), then seal it in right away with the ointments. You will see improvement within a few days. If that doesn't work, you need to go to the doctor and get prescriptions for steroid creams. Use them only as directed and sparingly because they can have nasty side effects. Good luck.

Poor little girl. I feel for you. My daughters have very dry skin in the winter months. The best thing I have found is Aquaphor. I get the jar and it doesn't sting even the worst skin. We have a ritual of rubbing it on after baths each night and by morning their skin looks a lot better. I also have a humidifier in both of their rooms. Good luck
Coconut oil has many healing properties. I would try that.
my son had really bad eczema all over when he was a baby. My daughter was not as bad. I will tell you that as they got older they had less problems. but we all still suffer with it to some degree. I have found that Melaleuca has a lotion called Renew. I has worked wonders for us. For my son, his being the worst, I have found that if I use the Renew all over and then go back over the worst red patched with Triple Cream (found in baby sections) that will help hold the Renew in and the red patched look much less sever by the next day. (FYI triple cream is made by the maker of Triple paste which will cure the worst diaper rashes)
I am so sorry your little one is so uncomfortable. I know of a product that will be able to help. I was just talking to a woman the other day about a lotion she uses. She used to have red bumps on her arms also and was given a prescription by a doctor to heal her severe dry skin. She started using BC Spa Body Ultra-Rich Body Moisturizer by Beauti Control. Her skin is no longer itchy and the red bumps have gone away.
I do sell Beauti Control but had never tried this product yet so I was very interested in trying it out, I just ordered some for myself.
If you think this is something that might help her you can look on my website www.beautipage.com/ldulaney under the bath and body tab. Or you can feel free to call me at ###-###-#### for any other concerns.

Vaseline is the best!! Aquafor is just an overpriced Vaseline. Good luck!!!
I have used Gentle Naturals Baby Eczema Cream from Wal-Mart in the baby aisle by the baby shampoo, etc. Recently, I picked up Johnson's Creamy Baby Oil by the baby oil, etc in the regular lotions aisle. These both work great! My dr. has also advised using Cetaphil and Aquaphor.
I used Eucerin as others have mentioned. I also added olive oil to the bath water. The warm water really soaks the oil into the skin. Just be careful because you will one slipper bugger when she gets out. Also have a bath mat so she doesn't slip.
Just to give you some light at the end of the tunnel, she was around three when she stopped having the dry skin. She still has issues with chapped lips but nothing like when she was a baby. :)
I really liked Eucerin for one of my kids with REALLY dry skin so I would check that out. I don't know how often you are bathing her, but try cutting back to just 2 - 3 times a week to see if that helps.
Good luck!
