Winter Travel in the Midwest with 15 Month Old

My husband and I are looking for a place to take our daughter for a few days between Christmas and New Year's. We don't have a ton of money to fly, so we are looking for cities in the Midwest that would have fun, indoor activities for our 15 month old daughter. Children's museums, water parks, etc. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

Hi A.,

You might want to look into the Grizzly Jack's Grand Bear Resort and Indoor Waterpark in Utica, Illinois. I have heard some great things about the resort. When I was a kid my family would travel to Wisconsin Dells as well. Haven't been in years but a friend of mine went recently and had a good time. Hope these suggestions help.

For an affordable Midwest vacation look into hotel packages in Wisconsin. There are hotels with indoor waterparks and spas. Everything included. There are big hotels in Sheboygan, Wisconsin Dells and even Waukesha.

Good luck and hope you have fun in this local vacation. :-)

If you are in Chicago and like the Milwaukee idea, my one extra piece of info is that the Hilton hotel is known for their indoor water park and it is pretty close to the children's museum. Remember that your 15 mo. old really just needs great space to run around and find something nice for you and your husband! The art museum there is good and has some Georgia O'Keefe pieces, also an interesting natural history museum close to the Hilton.

St. Louis is also great, but why drive six hours when you can drive 90 minutes??

Good luck.

Although usually associated with summer, Wisconsin Dells is a great winter spot as well. There are a lot of hotels with indoor water parks. There are ski hills for sledding, skiing, or snowboarding. There a ton of little shops with all sorts of things to buy or just to have fun looking at in the store. There are game rooms, Ripley's Believe it or not museum, crafts stores, restaurants.. you name it. Good luck & have fun!

Hi A.! We just recently went to the Atlantis in Wisconsin Dells in October. They have some great packages available between the holidays--less than $99/night for deluxe whirlpool rooms. It has 2 indoor waterparks & pools and is geared towards kids approx 8 yrs and younger. Our son is 2.5 and absolutely loved it!! It was totally age appropriate for him. We had a King Neptune suite with a whirlpool and he had as much fun in the whirlpool in the room as the hotel waterpark. The rooms were clean, well appointed with DVD players, and huge. Our room had 1 king & 2 queen beds and easily could have fit a larger family. They have a coffee maker, in room fridge & microwave too. There's a small restaurant that I think offered continental breakfast and snacks throught the day at the larger indoor waterpark but otherwise you have to go out to eat for breakfast, lunch, & dinner. The thing I was impressed about the most was the waterpark water was very clean & well maintained. At first I didn't realize the waterpark pool was treated with bromine instead of chlorine, but after I asked, I was very pleased with the entire experience. I couldn't get our son out even to eat! We were going to go back this winter too, but our schedules are too full right now. We'll definitely go back as soon as we can though. Have a great holiday season! Judy

Look into Milwaukee or the surrounding area. My sister lives there and we love going up for the weekend. Their children's museum is awesome and the art museum is amazing. I know Milwaukee doesn't sound like much, but it's convenient to get to and pretty darn cheap. There has to be some hotels with an indoor water park too if you are looking for that

Enjoy!
