I'm just procrastinating on another project so I thought I would throw this out there...nothing earth shattering...just wondering what kind of winter coats do people like for tween girls. It gets very cold here. Dd tried a three in one system last year but didn't like it because the inner lining kept slipping in the wrist area. I love lands end but so expensive. .in the past I have looked at consignment and thrift stores dd is getting fussy about that mostly because her dad totally hates the idea. So just looking for a warm stylish coat under 100 if possible.

What can I do next?

I always buy landend and never pay full price. I love their coats because you can easily get two years out of them with their extend a grow system. And, you can pass them down or give them to friends, they are worth the cost.

Just bought one of the higher price coats at 30% off. Easily under 100 :-)

You can find Lands End and L.L. Bean on sale...on ebay and in thrift stores and Goodwill...I've found things still with TAGS ON THEM...it doesn't matter where you buy them...if your husband has got his nose up in the air?? That's HIS problem...he shouldn't be passing that snotty attitude on to his child...

Since you didn't state what size, I can't do an ebay search for you...

Lands End is having a 30% off sale. I never pay $100 and all our outerwear comes from them.

If she's getting more conscious of brand then try Platos Closet (I know they have locations in Ohio). They have a good rep among teens here because it's high end resale. My tween and her 8 year old sister won't stop begging for NorthFace jackets. Guess the coats I bought are Target aren't trendy enough. So Santa's headin' to Platos Closet with the coupon I earned from back to school shopping with the teen, lol.

I'd have to agree about Plato's Closet. Could find something stylish for $30-$50 and it'll be trendy as well!!

Costco gets amazing, name brand coats in at really good prices. I'm allergic to down so I don't know first hand but I know people swear by the down coats Costco gets in.
I buy my jackets from REI, usually when they go on clearance or sale. LL Bean makes fantastic jackets. I've heard good things about Burlington Coat Factory.
When the kids were younger I bought nearly all of their winter jackets from my favorite resale shop that is sadly no longer open. My kids had nothing but high end, name brand winter coats for quite some time. Some of them were brand new. "Vintage" is in, as is thrift store shopping as it promotes recycling and repurposing. It no longer has the same stigma of being for the poor. It is now looked at as being "budget conscious" and smart, even for the higher income people. Her dad needs to get with the times and not pass on his outdated judgment down to his daughter.

We live in the coldest place on Earth and the Old Navy jackets are warm enough for my boys and there are plenty of fashionable styles. You can usually pick up an Old Navy jacket for under $50. Of course my first choice is second hand. I would rather pay $20 for a North Face or Columbia jacket than $50 for Old Navy.

Kids here do pretty serious parkas, usually with hoods. Many will wear hats too but a hood is something that can be quickly flipped up when thee's a surprise rain or snow storm, and for some girls, it's preferable because it doesn't squash their hair as much as hats. Others just wear hats because they don't want to freeze and they don't get sucked into the "looks" pressure. I have an LL Bean parka which wasn't cheap but it's incredibly strong and lasts for years. That might not work so well with a growing child who's fussy though.

I have 2 coats with zip out linings, and both have a button in the sleeve of the main coat and a loop on the wrist of the lining, so they hook just fine and never get messed up. One is a rain jacket (hip length) and the other is a trench coat. You could always add that to any jacket where the lining is slipping - go to any sewing store and tell the clerk what you need help with, and there will be an assortment of notions you can choose from to just hand sew in place.

We have a lot of resale shops - I don't know why her dad is so anti-repurposing! Especially when many of the shops support charities. I don't know if you have Burlington Coat Factory stores there - it's a chain in the northeast but I don't know how far they reach. They have a huge selection if you're willing to spend time looking. Check your newspapers for coupons in the inserts - sometimes those help with a big purchase too. I usually do well with Marshall's, not so much with TJ Maxx even though they are owned by the same company.

It probably won't help you this year, but I usually shop for coats for my kids in February/March at the outlet stores close by. We get some killer deals that way.
