Will He Ever Stay Dry During the Night???

Hey moms, I have twin boys, age 3 1/2 now and one is completely potty trained. My other one, well, he is fine during the day, but at night, he will stay dry a few nights, then wet the bed a few nights. We make sure not to let him drink any liquids after 6:00, (they go to bed at 8:00). We have him go potty right before he goes to bed. My husband even sets his alarm so he can wake him up to go potty at least once during the night, and he will still wet the bed sometimes. Somtimes I think he is just being lazy, other times I think maybe his little bladder just can't handle it. We don't allow him to wear pull-ups anymore to bed no matter how tired we get of washing sheets day in and day out. Are we doing all we can. Should we just wait it out. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.
Thanks moms!

3 1/2 is still really young to have to stay dry all night. I don't understand why not let him sleep in a pull-up? Your putting too much energy into this when its really no biggie. He'll out grow it, bed wetting is very common and he probably can't control it.

I hate to tell you this but I had 3 boys and 1 girl. My oldest girl and youngest boy were potty trained through the night but the other 2 boys didn't quit wetting the bed until they turned around 17. Both of them. I think it has something to do with their hormonal system. When they went through puberty they were able to control their bladders at night. We did the same thing you said about waking them up and such. I had another friend who said her girl would only wet the bed if she had chocolate during the day.
It is very frustrating but they can't help it. Both boys were very heavy sleepers and wouldn't wake up even if I spanked them while they were standing up at the toilet.
If your boys aren't identical twins they are just like 2 different brothers. Just keep trying, praying and accepting that some just may do this until their body changes.

Yep, just let him wear the pull ups. My two boys both took a long time to stay dry at night, right around the 6yr mark or so. That is not at all unusual, or even older. Even after 6yrs, the younger one occasionally had problems.

My daughter just turned four and still wets sometimes at night. I still put her in pull ups at night. The brain has to be mature enough to wake you up at night if you need to go. This happens at different ages in children. Your little boy's brain just has not matured enough yet. My advice is to let him sleep at night with a pull up and wait. Eventually he will stay dry.

It sounds like his bladder has not matured enough to allow him to stay dry all night. You are doing all you can. Why not help him have a successful night's sleep, but allowing him to sleep in a pull-up.

Hi L., I have 3 really young children aged 5.5 years, 4.5 years and 2.5 years. My oldest never needed pull-ups from 2.5 years and my baby potty trained last week and she has not needed pull-ups yet (she gets up during the night and goes to the bathroom) but my middle child who is now 4.5 years has never had a dry night yet......she has been trained during the day since she was 2.5 years but she just can't do it at night.......I used to get so stressed about it - get her up in the middle of the night.....not put pull-up on (change bed sheet after bed sheet)... limit her intake of fluids......etc etc. I have finally accepted that she is just not ready yet......she knows she wets her pull-ups during the night.....sometimes she even wets through her pull-ups.......she will say to me in the morning....mummy I don't know why I don't wake up to go to the potty.....save yourself the stress and put the pull-ups on and wait till he is ready........

Put him back in the pull up. It's not a power struggle, it's not laziness, he just isn't ready. Once he keeps a pull up dry for at least 7 nights in a row then try him without it again, but don't put him or yourself through this stress until then.

Good luck,
K.

I agree with the others who are saying not to stress everyone out about this just yet. He's still pretty young to be trained overnight. I got very lucky in that my daughter hasn't had a problem staying dry all night since she was a little over 2 years old, but most kids aren't like that. Nighttime is a whole different ballgame than daytime and he really probably can't help it. Just put him back in a pullup and wait until he is dry for a week or two in a row before you try him in undies overnight again. I would go nuts changing sheets every day!
