I have had three C-Sections total. I had my first in Feb. 2001, my second in March 2006, and my last in Sept. 2007. How long will I be numb in the area where the incision is. Does the numbness ever go away, or will I have it forever?

What can I do next?

I also had 3 C-sections. 1991, 1993 and 1996. I also had to have part of my small intestines removed due to Crohn's Disease in 1989 and that incison is still numb. All incisions are numb to this day. It's really weird to have an itch and not to really be able to feel myself scratching. I've gotten used to it though and rarely think about it.

It's numb because in order to get to the baby the doctor had to cut through and sever nerves. Nerves don't always regenerate and grow back together. It varies from person to person. My c-section scar has little numbness but a scar on my knee from recontructive surgery in 1994 is numb an inch in every direction.

I have that same kind of numbness on a scar from an incision on my knee and that surgery was 15 yrs ago. It's possible that you had some nerve damage in the skin in the area of the incisions. I noticed it at first but it's just what's normal now.

Nerve damage often doesn't heal. My mom told me yesterday she still has a numb spot near the incision on her belly from her hysterectomy. That was, oh, somewhere between 15 and 20 years ago.

I've only had one c-section...it was in August of 2006, and I'm still numb where the incision was.

I had a c-section in October 2007. The incision is numb and sometimes the actual incision hurts. I talked to my OB (the one that did the c-section) and he said since the tissue and muscles were cut there that I may always feel pain and numbness there.

I have also had 3 c-sections. The last being in 2006. My incision site is still numb. I have been told it is because of nerve damage due to surgery. I would be thrilled to have feeling there again, but I am not looking for it to happen.

I just had my fourth C-Section last week. My numbness never really went away. I know with this last C-Section, it took them a long time to cut through all of my scar tissue....

I had my c-section in 1997 and just in the last couple of years I noticed the feeling has returned to the area around the incision but the incision itself has no feeling still.

My son was born via c-section over 28 years ago--1981. The feeling of numbness is no longer an issue; however, the sensations on one side of my scar have never been normal in all this time. My c-section was emergency, so everything happened very quickly, but my memories of it are very vivid: I felt the tube going down my throat, and as that was happening, I felt the doctor cut me on the right side (I'm guessing I felt the scalpel go it). It didn't hurt, but I felt it, and that's the side of my scar with the strange sensations. It almost feels like the skin is being torn when it's touched.

I have had 2 c-sections and i think the numbness can last for a very long time. I don't have pain anymore (my last one was over a year ago) But the incision is still numb.

You will always be numb around your incision. When they cut your skin, they cut nerve endings that will never grow back. How it is right now, is how it will always be. Sorry. I had a C-section too, and I have the same numbness. Kinda stinks, but I try to consider it my mommy battle scar. Without it my little boy wouldn't be here, so I wear it proudly, even when it itches. ;-)

Hi,
I had twins by a C-section in 2001 and it felt numb for about a year and I had an itchy feeling by the scar on and off for about 2 years. A poster mentioned that she had or has pain too, but I only experienced pain for about 2 months after the delivery. It's funny now that you brought it up because back when it felt numb and itchy.... I thought..... "When will this ever end or will it??? And now it's a distant memory that has only surfaced because you asked the question. I hope it fill fade away for you, too. I wonder if it will take longer to go away since you've had 2 more c-sections than me... just a thought. (However, I did have my scar opened again to remove 2 large fibroids in 2004.)

I have had four c-sections 1996, 2000, 2005 and 2009. I can tell you from my experience that the numbness never went away from the first one. It was aggrevating at first, but turned out to work in my favor when I had to start insulin shots.

I work with post-op patients and it's very common to have incisional numbness because those little nerves for sensation get cut. Generally nerves will recover as much as they are going to in the first year. After that you are probably not going to have any further improvement in your sensation.

I have had two C-Sections. My first was in 2006 and my second in 2007. Mine is still numb and strangly enough it itches quite often. I talked to my doctor regarding it and he said the same thing another ladies doc said... it varies from woman to woman and it may go away but may not.

I had a c-section in Aug. 2007. The area was numb for about a year. My OBGYN told me that the numbness varies from one woman to the next. He reminded me that I should be happy that I was healthy and had no complications. LOL Thanks doc!! LOL
