is this normal? Why would she be doing this. She's been extra naggy and needy lately because she's getting 4 molars but i just noticed yesterday that as she is throwing her tantrum and crying incessantly until I give her her bottle of milk or pick her up, she will stand there and pinch both nipples. wth??? oh ya, she was breastfed as well for 8 months. But she never did this until now. She's not tounching me, shes touching her own nipples.

Any advice or insight would be most appriciated!

Thanks in advance,
C.

did she ever breastfeed? even as a bottle baby, she may equate that nipples offer comfort?
if she is doing it to comfort herself, you can show her to squeeze the skin between her thumb and finger. That is a pressure point to calm people down (works for our headaches too)

I have a friend whose son did this when he got upset too. It was a soothing mechanism. Unless she is actually hurting herself I think it's normal.

it may be innate by now that she associates that area with nursing even if you've stopped for a while, after I stopped my daughter would still often try and touch that area on M. and had to be redierected for quite some time

It is a bit strange...but kids do all sorts of strange things. Just take her hands off of them repeatedly. Don't make a big deal about it...just help her to break the habit of reaching for herself to cause pain when she's upset.
