i seriously doubt it was because of a patient having trouble with a liquid staying down. sounds like a problem patient all round.

I thought this was a knock knock joke. Seriously.

The title was the question of the joke, and the one line explaining it I thought was the punch line. I didn't get the joke though.

I see from the other responses it probably isn't.

But with it being Friday before a long weekend..........

Sorry.

Anyway, please gives us more information so we can be helpful.

welcome to mamapedia!!

This is an interesting first question that is missing a lot of information...

1. WHY did you need to consume a liquid BEFORE an ultra sound if you are 8 months pregnant?

2. Were you communicating with the doctor?

3. Were you following the doctor's orders??

I doubt very seriously this is about not being able to hold a liquid down, I would hazard to guess that you were NOT following the doctor's orders, you were NOT communicating with him/her and putting yourself and your baby at risk so instead of risking a law suit - they dropped you as a patient.

Good luck!

Um, yeah, I don't know if you noticed the "mama" in the mamapedia? We have kids and there is no liquid that has to be drunk before an ultrasound.

So if your doctor dropped you it is a liability issue. In other words your behavior and habits have lead the doctor to believe that you are at a self inflicted risk for having birth defects or complications and doesn't want to risk being sued by you. Let me take a stab here, you didn't see the doctor until say, 8 months?

I don't understand the question. I've never had to drink anything before an ultra-sound. I did have to drink something before the diabetes test, but that was long before I was 8 months along.

I'm wondering if you are confused.

I'm guessing the patient needed a full bladder for a pelvic ultrasound and could not keep enough water down to run a successful test? And the doctor probably pays extremely high liability insurance and if he can't get a good ultrasound read in the 3rd trimester, he probably didn't have a good ultrasound prior, so the patient is deemed too high risk for his practice, specifically medical malpractice insurance. Probably best to blame the insurance company.

There is more to this than what you have stated.

I don't know any doctor that would terminate a relationship with a patient who is 8 months pregnant unless that patient wasn't doing what she was instructed to do to ensure they and their unborn child are health.

What is the rest of the story?

We have no way of knowing with just the information you give. Most people are reasonable and would not do this without good reason, especially as this is a well paid professional that makes their living seeing patients. My first thought is to look honestly at your behavior. Most likely there was a reason for this happening to you. Otherwise you will need to ask the obgyn in question.

Not much info here, and you're a first-time poster so we don't know anything about you. Can you elaborate, either by editing your post or putting more in the "So What Happened" section?

I was always told to drink a certain amount of water before an ultrasound, so I understand that. I do think there must be more to this story. I encourage you to call your OB and ask directly.

I agree with Wild Woman. You don't need to drink once you are past a certain date. It's not ethical for a Dr. to just drop an 8month preg woman. There is more to the story.

My guess would be a reason to drop a patient would be a failure to be able to communicate and establish a rapport with that patient.

A little confusing ...

before I had my pregnancy ultrasounds, I had to use the washroom about an hour before, then drink 2 glasses of water before I had the ultrasounds. That's because your bladder should be partially full for the imaging to be clearest. It can be very uncomfortable at 8 months due to the pressure of the baby on your bladder. Is that what you mean?

It's no different than a colonoscopy or those kinds of tests - if you don't do the preparation before, they can say they won't perform the test. In fact, it makes sense for them not to do it if the information won't help them.

If they aren't willing to work with you and you are being reasonable, then better off with new doctor.

Good luck

Perhaps the doc knows they can't help this patient and they need to see someone else.

If the doc was this particular, if it's the pediatrician, I'd be glad to be rid of them and find a new doc.

Drinking liquids is what our doc did to test the kiddo for reflux so I assumed that might be what you mean.

Then the doc told us the most common reason kids are being diagnosed with reflux nowadays is because parents are overfeeding them.

It would be so nice if you'd include more than this tiny bit of information.

Did this happen to you? Or did it happen to a friend?

If it's a friend, you have no idea what all has been going on between her and her doctor. Perhaps she has turned it into an adversarial relationship. Perhaps she was rude to the doctor. Perhaps she has some risk factors that he/she doesn't want to handle and wants her to go to an OB who handles at-risk patients.

If this is you, then only you know what is really going on between you and your doctor. And if this you who this question is about, did you not ask the doctor why? Do you want people here to tell you that he or she was wrong?

I guess I just don't quite understand the question if it's you. If this is a friend of yours, are you just curious? Or is she asking you? She should ask her doctor if she really doesn't know what caused this to happen between them...

Sounds like a doctor I wouldn't want anyway.

It is probable that there was a another reason that you will never know about, the ultrasound was just an excuse. Count your blessings and move on.
