I am so concerned with my 19 month toddler not seeing enough ouside time and interaction with other kids. we say in the house alot because I just had a baby and I can not seem to find the great interesting playgroups going on on my side of town. Can someone please HELP???? He loves to run, jump, kick a ball and just be a kid but it is hard to get around with the two of them adn outside does not seem to be an option until weather is nicer.

What can I do next?

I live in the burbs & there's a play group that's offered thru the state called PARENTS AS TEACHERS. The group meets every other Tuesday for one hour & my 16mo b/g twins love it!

I just inquired about the neighboring towns & we're more than welcome to attend those play groups too. They're on diff days of the week so we can attend at least one play group a week.

It's free & the kids all seem to get along really well.

Does your local park district offer anything?

I'm thinking about joining this group too. www.parentswhocare.org. Maybe there's a group that meets in your area?

Hi C.,
I also live on the SW side. I don't have information on playgroups, but do have a couple ideas for activities in the area.
I haven't checked this place out yet, but it looks great- http://www.handsonart.org/index.php
If I remember correctly, the Beverly Arts Center has music/dance classes even for little ones.
You could also check what the park district is offering.
Also story times and events at the libraries- we like the one on 61st Pl. and Kedzie.

Try Meetup.com, they have a sw side chapter also a group called MOPS International and another group called PACES. There's also a monthly magazine/newspaper called Family Time. It is similar to Chicago Parent, but a smaller version customized for the southwest suburbs. Beverly also has a lot of places for kiddie or tot classes such as at World Folk Music, Beverly Arts Center, etc. Hope this helps you to connect with others.

I have a 2 year old son and feel the same way. I have thought about trying to start something at a park or library but I really just want to join not run something. I am a working mom and so can only do things on evenings and weekends which is even more challenging. We go to Westlawn Park and then we go to other neighborhoods for more activities.
