Why Is Buying Gas Such a Gamble?

Have you ever noticed that the day you see gas for $2.79 you are so excited but don't have the time to stop for it and figure I will just get it in the morning. Morning comes and they jacked the prices up to $3.18. Or I have even seen where I will be on my way somewhere like the grocery store and figure I will stop on my way back after I get the food and find that it has jumped some ridiculous amount in that hours time.

Even the opposite where I do have time to stop and am all excited b/c I found gas for $2.99 and then the next morning it is down to $2.79.

Hmmm.. Anyone else play the Gas Gambling Game!?..

What can I do next?

Nah. I pay no attention. I fill up when I'm on fumes then forget about it. After all, with a 15 gallon tank, what are we talking about here....$2-3 per tank? Not worth stressing over.

I hate when the news announces the national gas price average. Here in Texas we are well below the national average, that is until it's announced on the news, then immediately, they are changing the gas prices. I find that going on Tuesday or Wednesday, I usually get the best gas prices.

I paid $71 to fill my tank on Monday and was so excited that I found gas for $3.05. Everywhere else around here is $3.09 or $3.12 (Shell). I find that it doesn't really make a huge difference, even though mentally it does :).

Haven't seen those prices in forever! Gas just went up to $3.59. I do agree they seem to go up suddenly at times. Never seem to go down very quickly.

I heard and also noticed that gas prices go up before the weekend. Keep an eye on those stations and see if you can notice a pattern.

I was told it's generally cheapest to purchase gasoline on Tuesday and to fill up your tank in the morning while it's cool. I'm not sure exactly why it's cheaper on Tuesdays, but it seems to hold true.

I fill up weekly at Costco when i'm on my way or coming home from Boy Scouts on Tuesday nights. LOL ... otherwise, it's too far out of my way to make a difference in the price. i'd spend more in gas getting there than what i'd save buying it at the corner gas station.

I don't play the game. I just buy it when I need it at my regular stop. I certainly don't ride around shopping prices.

I did fill up yesterday and paid $3.21 which is not that bad. My car will only use the highest grade so I'm a premium user. I paid more than $3.21 last time though.

It does fluctuate a lot!!

EDIT: I get 15 mpg in my car just running around with my errands and all. It is a high end sports car, I love it and it loves gas!!!

I have an even bigger SUV, so even 5 cents difference is a great deal to us, lol!!

Wouldn't it be nice if we didn't have environmental whackos freaking out about birds and insects and didn't create an unneccesarry stink about drilling here in our own country?! We'd probably be paying .75 a gallon if our oil came from our own country!
