You could be a bit anemic (low iron). I've always been on the low side and coldness seemed to be associated with that. Also with the loss of blood you lose iron too. Maybe try some iron supplements.
Hi Moms!
I am always cold on my period no matter if its summer or winter. Does anyone know why this might be? Does the body's temp drop when we are on our periods? I bleed pretty heavily too (not to be gross, just didn't know if this helps)...I have the heat on to 70 degrees and usually, I only keep it at 68 and I am fine...I swear every time I am on my period, I freeze!!! I try to wear warm layers too. Just don't know why I'm only cold on my period.
Thanks!

You'll get all that heat back when you go through menopause.
Have your thyroid checked. Before my hypothyroidism was diagnosed, I was often freezing, esp. on my period. Extra thyroid amps up your body's thermostat.
Yep, heavy bleeding and feeling cold are hypothyroid symptoms.
Do your nails/hair grow slowly and are brittle/break easily?
Have the outer edges of your eye brows thinned out?
It would not hurt to have your thyroid checked out.
So, I feel the same. I found out that because you are losing blood, you can be a little anemic. Which means your iron level has gone down and that is why my dear you feel colder. Your iron level must increase after you are off your menstral. Iron deficiency can linger if you dont be careful and replenish with a supplement or high in iron foods. So when you are on your period try to eat a steak, liver or supplement countered by vitamin c which contributes to you not being constipated. Iron supplements have a tendency to make you constipated if you are not exercising high in fiber diets. Hopefully this has helped a bunch.
Much love and warmth!
I go through cold spells during my period too. While it certainly would not hurt to get your thyroid checked out as others has suggested, it might just be that your body is changing, depending on your age. Everything at my last appt. came back normal including my thyroid. Being cold is just one more thing I've noticed has changed in the last few years, along with some aggravated PMS and cramping.
I wish you the best and hope that all checks out okay with your thyroid. Take care!
I'm always cold by nature (drives my family NUTS because they're the opposite and I'm always cranking the heat or wearing a hoodie when they're in shorts!)... it's a circulation thing. There are lots of things that contribute to poor circulation, especially when you're on your period. Make sure you're taking a daily vitamin, eating right, and exercising (I know, exercise is a bad word)...
... in the meantime, make yourself a nice hot cup of coffee and throw on an extra pair of socks!!
Two reasons: Blood loss and hormone shifts.
I have been trying to figure this out for a long time. For the past couple of years I have had bad night sweats in the few days running up to my period, and then have felt crazily cold for the first couple of days of my period. I know that body is trying to get the progestrone up and the oestrogen out but i wish this process could be quicker and not involve so much water.
Anyway I think it's common for women to be cold during their period but it's not healthy. The coldness feels like I have excess water in my body and my body does not have the engine to heat it. I think it's salt deficiency. Not sure which salt. But when I had some salt (iodized) my body started producing heat again.
Are you really thin?
