Does anyone have a "Whole Home Humidifier" installed in their home? (It works through the airducts and humidifies the whole house?) Please would you give me your opinion? Does it work/help? Was it worth the cost? Thanks so much.

Hi
If you live in a area that has a high levels of lime or calcium in your water you may want to just buy a couple big humidifers and put them in your home. The lime and calcium build up in your heating ducts and then can cause problems later. Good Luck

We have an April Aire and I really like it. You do have to adjust it when it gets really cold (like now) and then lower it again when it warms up otherwise you get condensation on the windows.

We had one in our other house. My husband installed it and it wasn't too $$. However, we still had to use humidifiers in the winter.

We have one but it is very subtle to notice it. I guess I don't notice a lot of static so it might be doing OK. I wouldn't expect a dramatic change. I still keep a humidifier in my sons room. I used to live in Denver where we had one installed that you could adjust the humidity setting. I liked that but ours here doesn't have that option.

While whole home humidifiers sound great, they create breeding grounds for mold. I am a licensed insurance agent and have gone to several continuing education classes hosted by home restoration companies. They have all said that mold builds in the airducts and so all you're doing is pumping mold spores throughout your home. I just use small portable humidifiers in each room when the air is dry. I like the Vicks cold air humidifiers because they are super easy to clean (and very cheap!).
