Who Is Interested in Scouting?

My husband was involved in Boy Scouts as a leader and was so busy with all the meetings and trainings and campouts that I felt like I NEVER saw him. The time he actually spent with the boys (which I tried to be supportive of) was so small compared to all the administrative stuff and paperwork and roundtable meetings, planning meetings, etc, that I was very frustrated with the whole experience. Maybe if we had a child in the troop I would have felt a little differently about it. But I hated all the extra stuff and red tape that I saw as a waste of time.

My son has been in Cub Scouts for three years and I have been his den leader for the last two. Next year he will transition to Boy Scouts in February. My nephew is an Eagle Scout and I am very proud that my son says he wants to be an Eagle Scout also. The creed of the scouts is to do good in the community and to live clean, healthy lives and I think that being exposed to other families with the same values in a setting where kids learn and have fun is great! Saturday is our Blue and Gold and I am so proud to see all the boys of our patrol getting their Webelos badges! By the way, I was also a Brownie and a Girl Scout for many years!

I was in girl scouts as a kid and loved it. I now have three boys and my oldest started cub scouts this year. I was really excited but have been disappointed. The Pack he is in is disorganized. We spend more time discussing what we are going to do then actually doing it. There are only 4 boys in his den and we only have 2-3 most weeks. We are also not informed about events until the last minute. My boys are in sports so we are thinking of dropping cub scouts next year.

We're planning on doing scouting as soon as our little guy's old enough! We can't wait!

I would love to put my son in scouts, but I was told he's too young? He'll be five in March. So I am not sure where I would find out more information on when he can be signed up? When my daughter gets older I plan on looking into girl scouts as well.

I have an 11year daughter almot 12. Do you think that she is too old for Girl Scouts? I would love to do something like that. Please let me know ....Thanks N. Costantino

I had my oldest daughter involved for 4 years 2 in brownies 2 in Jr. I served as the cookie mom all four yrs. I had fun doing it and my daughter enjoyed being involved with the other girls but never seemed to mesh. When we quit, we were both glad to but that experience behind us. Too much work with too little pay out. My youngest daughter is not involved and glad she hasn't experienced that "clicky" feeling while I was trying to get my oldest daughter involved.

We can't wait to put our son in scouts. My husband is an Eagle Scout. We were told he's too young. He just turned five. What is the age that he can start?

My family loves Scouting. My 13 year old son started as a Tiger cub and is now in Boy scouts. He's in a very active Troop that goes on lots of fun trips and outings. He plans to reach Eagle by the time he's 15. My 9 year old daughter started in Daisy scouts when she was in Kindergarten, She was a Brownie for 2 years and then moved up to Juniors this year. We just finished selling cookies and plan to use our profits to go on a Spring Break Troop trip to Florida. Like any program, Scouting is great when you have good, energetic leaders who are well trained. Also, it helps when parents are willing to pitch in and help. I think Scouting teaches great values and useful everyday skills that are helpful throughout life!

We too bleed green in our house. With 3 girls I wouldn't know anything else. My oldest daughter is in her 6th year of scouting and my middle one will start this fall. I am a troop leader and volunteer at the neighborhood level. I love my scouting experience and so does my daughter. It is a great experience!!!
