My 5 year old would say Daddy, and "soldiers", then Spider Man. And "cowboys".
My 2 year old doesn't know there is anyone else in the world besides Daddy. (*little jealous twinge) :)
When my son was younger they were:
- SpongeBob
- MasterChief from Halo
- Carl Sagan
Now that he's older the 2nd two still make the list, but he's added four more; a filmmaker we know (LT boyfriend of his godmother), Bungie Studios (a videogame design company), his sensei., and god.. and I can SEE him looking for someone/something to fill the gap that SpongeBob has left. It's fun to watch... he's very seriously looking for a comedic element. Laurel & Hardy, Chaplin, and Monty Python were serious contenders for awhile. None seemed to quite fit the bill. The YogsCast (2 brit guys who make serious / seriously funny videos about a game he loves; minecraft) are currently up for 'review', and he may or may not go with them. I'm a little hesitant to introduce him to Robin Williams' work... because he's already far too like Robin Williams (oy! I really DO want to know if R.W.s mother survived his childhood, and SANE), and a lot of his work is a little too adult/mature.
Anyhow... I really like watching this evolution of heros. How my son gravitates toward people, characters, divine inspiration, and even a whole company ... that represent different parts of himself or that have just blown his mind.
Do your children have heros?

I don't think they would ever refer to them as heros so I am not sure. I know they have people who's opinions they trust, who they allow to effect their lives but they are people they know and see in their lives every day, not on TV.
Mostly TV just entertains them.
Christine thought Al Gore was amazing for about a month. It was a very dark time in her life. :p
May I suggest the Three Stooges? Personally I can not stand them but there was nothing better than Sat am when we were woken to the scream of "STOOOOOOOGES" as he ran up the stairs to watch with Grandpa (when we lived with them). They are physical comedy that boys/men love and I think better than Spongebob. It is also a good way to discuss culter differences when they arise - the culture when the Stooges were at their height of popularity is VERY different than now.
For my 5yo Three Stooges probably fits the comedy bill, I know daddy is in there somewhere and probably the Power Rangers (oy!) Oh and who can forget Mario and Luigi!
When he was 3 it was the Little Einsteins - he still gets excited when he sees the dvds and watches them but not like when he was 3.
Dad is number one for the littles but the bigs love anyone that can make them laugh. Right now we are really into "An Idiot Abroad" but then we enjoy sarcastic wit. Google it and watch and see what you think.
My littles also love spongebob, sonic the hedgehog, danny phantom.
Batman
The Power Rangers
Batman
Woody
Batman
I do believe they would list their father, his mother, & my mother. I cannot claim this for myself....:) It's their job to state it.
As a child, my older son's hero was his daddy's 1st cousin who was a professional baseball player. My son loved seeing the games & actually knowing someone on the field!
Both of my sons applaud Abraham Lincoln, despite his unfolding faults. My older son is very interested in the Masons & will be joining as soon as he has a viable career behind him.
& both of my sons genuinely appreciate their 7th grade history teacher. He impacted both of them for life....& that's with 9 years between my sons! Oh, the stories they tell.....
Great question, I find it interesting how my sons did not revere fictional nor media figures! Thanks for opening my eyes!
Son : age 7
Gene Kelly
Daughter : age 10
Selena Gomez
My husband.. He is obsessed with my husband :) Daddy is the coolest guy around (he is)
I think if I asked him they would be Jean Jacques Cousteau (Jacques Cousteau's son, also an oceanographer) and Jane Goodall. He is 6.
