White Leather Couches and a Red Sharpie!!!

Aack! My one year old got a red sharpie and colored my white leather couches, the only nice pieces of furniture we own! This happed one day after she got ahold of a ball point pen and colored the back of the other couch. Believe it or not I can get most of it off with a baby wipe, but it also takes the rustic coloring off of the leather too. So now I have a big white spot right in the middle of the cushion. I was wondering if any of you have found another way to get sharpie off the couch that will not take the leather dye off or do I just take the sharpie off and re-dye the furniture. I am SO bummed!

And while you're checking all these ideas for fixing the couches, save yourself another headache: take all the sharpies (and pens) and store them in your house where only *you* can reach them! You can't keep a toddler from using what she sees you using if she can get it. So don't let her get it!

I've used rubbing alcohol, but I do not know if it will remove the coloring as well. It may, because although the top surface of the red should come off pretty easily, you may have to rub hard (with soft white cotton cloth or cotton balls) to get out the part that has penetrated into the dye of the leather.

not sure how to get it off better, but to make yourself feel a little better about the situation you can always check out the website S*#& my kids ruined.com (It's actually spelled correctly) I know that I laugh out loud when I look at that site everytime. Heck, you may even want to post a pic of your couches on there. Sorry, but in a few months you may look back and think this is funny. I know that I laugh now about the stuff my 22 yr old did way back when. Good luck! <3

call a professional or buy leather cleaner-the white spot may be able to be redyed/blended to match the original color

Yes...leather CAN be re-colored.
We had a furniture repair company do the seat of our ivory leather couch where our dog (with a wet tummy) would sleep.
Call a good furniture store for a recommendation of a local company.

My in-laws had their furniture people come to clean their couch only to find out what they use is anti-bacterial hand sanitizer. They had a microfiber couch, though.

I have noticed that Purell takes sharpie off plastic containers and other surfaces. I don't know whether it would work on leather, since it's more porous, but there you go... good luck!

My daughter did the same thing on our tan leather couch with a black sharpie. I spent days, googling online & on the phone with furniture stores. WHITE COLGATE toothpaste did it!!!!
