Whistling

Does anyone know how to teach a child to whistle? My 6 yo is very upset that his little sister can do it. She's a pro. Just turned 4 and in a week has learned to whistle blowing out and sucking in, and can do songs, too. I think she's way ahead on this. Am I right, or is my son behind on this? How can I help him?

What can I do next?

ITs really hard to teach. My older son hates that his little brother can do it also. I didn't learn how until my 20s...one day I just could do it.

google is your friend - teaching a child how to whistle - type this and a bunch of stuff will come up. See which works best. You may find stuff on youtube also.

Some people NEVER can... Because they can't "roll" their tongues (which is genetic, btw, the ability to roll your tongue is a recessive trait). People who can't roll their tongues can usually learn that 'piercing whistle' or their finger lip whistle, but it won't be musical. In order to whistle songs, you have to bd able to shape your tongue in certain ways that not everyone can.

I'm 29, CAN roll my tongue, but sill can't whistle. My little brother is an expert, which can make one a bit jealous...lol, but some people never learn to whistle...and my hubby had tried to teach me, but nothing works, so tell your son that he will have other talents that his littler sibling wont and vice versa and urge him to keep trying!
