I'm interested in the Whisper Wear Breast Pump but don't know anyone personally who has used it. I'm a teacher, planning to pump at school when I return to work, and like the "hands-free" part because I can grade papers while pumping. If anyone has used this pump and has opinions to share (positive or negative), I'd love to hear them! Thanks so much.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the information about the WW -- I ended up getting the Medela PIS and am very satisfied with it.

I pumped with a medela with both of my kids, and for child #2 I was also able to borrow a whisper wear from a friend, and used that sometimes. I also read a lot about it online from other mothers. It seems to really depend - some women got a lot of milk using it, others needed harder suction.

I found that it was enough pump to relieve pressure and get some milk, but I didn't get the quantity of milk I did with the Medela. I found it really useful when I had to be offsite from my office and didn't have a private place to pump, or handy and discreet while driving.

I had a hard time finding the Whisper Wear parts at the time though (that was 2 yrs ago) and the people at Babies R Us told me they thought the company might be going out of business, so investigate to make sure you can get parts, or possibly borrow/buy used, rather than making a big investment.

check out www.kellymom.com there is a page that shows you how to make any pump hands free without buying the expensive and hard to put on bustiers.
I personally went with a Lactina that I got on ebay new for the price of a pump in style. even a used lactina is good because it is designed to be used by more than one mom. If you plan on having more than one child, investing in the lactina is worth it. And it has resale value when you're done with it. Good luck and congrats on deciding to breastfeed!

Never had a Whisper, but I, too, recommend a Medela. I got a double electric Pump In Style on Ebay for half the orice. Also, you can buy a bra/bustier/bandeau to hold the pumps so you'll be hands free with any electric pump you choose. I'll ask my LLL leader if she remembers where she got hers that I'm borrowing, but I think I remember seeing one on BabyCenter.com. Good Luck!

Hi -
I never used a Whisper but I have an Ameda Purely Yours that works really well. The www.kellymom.com link about hands-free pumping is a good method if that's the only thing driving you to the Whisper. I like the PY - if you don't want all of the extra stuff (carry case etc) then you can have one new for $150 or less. Good adjustable suction (I usually use it at only about 50% max, so plenty of wiggle room there) and adjustable pumping speeds too.

I've heard good things about the Madelas too, but I just coudln't see spending $250 when I could get a good one for $150.

Either way, congrats on your decision to breastfeed, and good luck!

I used the pump while I working full time and it was mediocre WHEN it worked... Definitely convenient that its hands free... I actually used it during my lunch breaks... even in public in the restaurant (just make sure its very loud so no one hears the motor running)... I also used it on my way back home in the car.... As long as you get the pump on correctly, it does the job... But you definitely need a back up pump...

I've been using the Medela pump n' style and I think it's great. I don't need it very much though, I'm at home full-time. But I borrowed it from my cousin and she worked outside the house and actually all my cousins have used it I think and it's still pumping strong so it must be good!

I used these pumps soon after they came out. My son is now almost four and I used them for one year with him.

I did not have a good experience at all with them. Ofcourse, I would hope that they have improved them but I found that while I produced plenty of milk for my son, pumping was really difficult. They had to replace the pumps several times because they weren't working right and even at that they were just a real disappointment adding stress to an already stressful time.

I had Whisper wear pump and wasn't happy with it. Couldn't pump much- (didn't get good suction as it's coming off my bbs).
IMO Medela is much better pump and you can get attachment to make it hands-free. I would invest in it. You can get new Medela from Ebay for a great price.
