Whiney Toddler

I took my 23 month old daughter to the doctor last week cause she was waking up with yellow crusty gook in her eyes and the daycare was concerned with pink eye well turns out she had a double ear infection on top of the eye infection. She wasn't running a fever or anything and was perfectly normal and usually when she does get an ear infection the fever is the first thing to come. The doctor of course prescribed anti-biotics as well as eye drops so now my question is that she has been very whiny and needy the past couple of days as well as not wanting to eat and on top of that now she is starting with a cough. Could it be the meds? I'm just concerned cause I would have thought it would have been the opposite and for her to be whiny etc first but since being on the meds is when she started acting different. Any thoughts?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks I never thought about the meds killing the good as well as the bad bacteria. It makes sense now cause even her nose start running after she was already taking the meds for a couple of days. I'm definitely going to try the culturelle and will keep that in mind for the future too. I know it will pass but you just hate to see your precious lil ones not feeling well:(

Look at the information that came with the prescriptions. There is a list of side affects.

I would call the doctor no matter what. The reason there is a list of side affects associated with prescriptions is because they are snythetic and our bodies know when we give it something that isn't natural.

We need prescriptions every once in awhile but sounds like she is having side affects.

Call the doctor or call the pharmacist.

She's starting to feel a bit better, and now feels well enough to complain about it, maybe. And eye drops might be uncomfortable, and antibiotics can cause a bit of a stomach/bowel upset, so that could be affecting her too. Just give her the extra love and cuddles she needs for now.

Possible. But there are different types of bugs that cause infection. And since this started differently then before, it will probably run its course differently as well. Keep her hydrated if she won't eat, and baby her. We all love that when we feel rotten!

Best wishes!

She could be coming down with a cold - mine always get very needy before they get a cold because they ache and they have sore throats - or she could be sick at her stomach from the antibiotic. Some of them are hard on tummies. I have to give my kids probiotics and yogurt and sometimes pepto bismol along with antibiotics. Also, has she been out of daycare and home with you for the last couple of days? Change in routine can make kids needy as well.
