Which Is the Lesser of the Two Evils?

I'm having cell phone problems. My latest cell phone is a T-mobile Samsung LG Optimus T P509 Black. It sucks. It's not durable. It drops calls. The touch screen freezes daily, which in order to fix I have to struggle to get the back off and take out the battery for a few minutes before putting it back in and turning the phone back on. I have to recharge the battery AT LEAST every other night, usually more often. I get service in a lot of spots, but not as many as I would like. The upsides are that it has a pretty good camera and I love the way that it organizes my text messages. Plus, when I am on a call people can hear me clearly (That is, until the call drops).

Since I can't afford to get a new phone until after Christmas, I decided to go back to the very first cell phone I owned. It is a T-mobile Samsung Stripe T329 Black. I used it for 3 years and only had good memories of it. It is VERY durable (Which, with a toddler is definitely a good thing). It never drops calls. It's not a touch screen (It's a flip phone) so the screen never freezes. The battery lasts a decent amount of time (I've had it back for about a week now and I've only charged it twice). I get service EVERYWHERE (In fact, the only time I ever lost service with this phone was when the 1-35 bridge collapsed and everybody in the area was trying to call their families). The downsides are the the camera sucks, the organization of text messages is horrible, and most importantly nobody can hear me. My husband says that unless I am literally screaming into the microphone it sounds like I am whispering. He is constantly asking me to repeat what I said.

Justin wants me to go back to the LG Optimus so that he can hear me again, but I'm still not sure which phone is the lesser of the two evils. Opinions?

What can I do next?

You shouldn't have to choose between two evils.

You know you can buy a prepaid phone at Walmart for about $20, right? Just buy a cheap T-mobile prepaid phone from Walmart, Target, Best Buy, etc. Then you can either call T-mobile or go to your account online to activate your phone to your existing account. It probably won't have a nice camera, but it will get you by until Christmas. If you have any problems with the phone, you should have at least 15 days to return it for a full refund.

You should also try taking the LG Optimus to T-mobile to see if they can give you a new battery or just replace the phone for free.

Have you checked the reviews on the LG Optimus? It could be that just your phone is having issues, if it's still under warranty, maybe they can replace it with another one? When you can get a new one, you should try the Samsung Galaxy S III. It's a great phone.

I would take it to T-mobile and tell them your difficulties. As Sandra R. says it could just be your phone. Find out what they can do for you. You can also update your contract and get a new phone for free. I would not go back to the old phone because it's important that people be able to hear you. In my opinion talking to others is the primary function of a phone. It's nice to be able to take pictures but it's not essential for communication.

The one that best serves your needs is the one I would stay with for the time. It sounds like the first phone at least allows for a phone conversation, when it's in a good area of course.
