Good luck.
Hi everyone,
i have a dilemma, i am almost 8 months pregnant and i'm trying to figure out what to do. Btw, i'm having another little boy!!! Yeah!!! Well, we don't know which pedriatician to use either the one my son goes right now or the one he used to go. The one he used to go is about 30mins away, he is great, when he was born he did the circumcision on the spot (well the next day at the hospital before we left)(which is what we wanted!) and he sent to our home everything for taking care of the jaundice condition he had. The best experience ever. But we ended changing doctors about 9-10 months ago because it was far away from me and i found a better doctor for my son (for now!!). But i would love to have the doctors that take care of my son to take care of my baby when is born, the only thing is that i'm afraid they won't take good care as the "old doctors" did w/my little one when he was born and plus they do the circumcision days later (almost a week) after he is born, which breaks my heart because i've heard that after a few days it hurts the baby. What should i do?????
If i use the old doctor i would have to use him for the first few months and then change to the new doctor (same as my son) and it's such a hastle...but i just don't know what to do?

Ok I'm not going to be much help as I'm very into natural living and not circumcising.. HOWEVER... I can let you know that the safest circumcision is done at 8 days of age when the body can clot its own blood. Hemorraging is very common with this procedure when done before the 8th day.
But again.. I do not recommend circ to anyone. (I have more info on this if you're interested..if you're not.. no problem.)
For years we've used Dr Stockhammer in Deland (on 92) but I don't know that this will help you with the circ issue. Still they're very good doctors. They even put up with my weird holistic ways *lol* They're # is ###-###-####
Hate to break it to you, but no matter when a circumcision is performed, it hurts the baby...think about it - it's not like his pain sensors magically develop one week after he's born. Your day old son felt the pain, and your next one will, so the timeline of the circumcision shouldn't play a role in your decision making.
Circumcision hurts even a brand newborn, I would really recommend looking into it. I didn't with my first son and I regret it very much! We researched while pregnant with our second son and I'm so glad he's intact : )
We use Dr Oliver as a pediatrician. Good luck in your search!
My husband is a pediatrician in Palm Coast and I am giving you his opinion on the matter. There are three mechanisms of providing pain control during the circumcision. First topical with EMLA cream second a nerve block by injecting lidocaine and third oral dextrose. If these three steps are carried out correctly your son will have a completely different experience as far as pain goes during the circumcision. Pain control can be acheived during a circumcision you just need to make sure your doctor knows what he/she is doing and provides pain control during the procedure. People including doctors who say the circumcision is going to hurt no matter when it is done don't know what they are talking about.
Good Luck!!
Congratulations!!
Noelia,
Can't really tell you which Dr. to choose, but I can tell you that the day of least pain for a baby for circumcision is at 8 days old. We researched this with our first son and had his done on that day. He had no problems with it. It is also biblical at that time. Hope it all works out for you.
A lot of times, your OB can do the circumcision at the hospital. Just an option. Also, be sure to make sure your pediatrician that you see now (which is closer to home) will accept transfers again at a later age. For example, the pediatrician I have chosen is only accepting newborns and the siblings of newborns. In all, my best advice is to do what is best for the whole family at this time. Now you have two children to care for and somehow it more than doubles the work!
Orange Park Pediatrics ###-###-####) is the main practive in OP. They have been doing kids since our generation. The staff is awesome, you can always get an appointment the same day, the nurse calls back within minutes, and they don't rush you.
They also do circumcisions in the hospital early the next morning after they are born. There are 5-6 DR's there so you have plenty to explore and find the one that suits your personality.
My suggestion.......I guess I should first say that I have 5 sons and one daughter, so I've been there. Please do more research online about circumcision. I have had 1 good circ, one too much skin left circ, one too little skin left circ, one didn't take all the way and merged back circ, and on the fifth son I left in tact! I didn't even realize there was a choice until my 5th son a year ago. I was upset because they weren't going to be able to perform the procedure before we left the hospital and that's how it all started....... I also didn't realize that only 50% of boys today are even circumcised in America. I let my husband decide and was quite surprised that even though he's circumcised, after discussing it with Dr. Miles, he felt our son should make his own decision. I believe to each his own, but I share my story just in case newer mothers are in my shoes and feel really bad about doing it.
Also, I've read that the 8th day, I believe.....if anyone out there knows definitely please share......but anyway, after the first week is the day of the lowest pain and that's why biblically it was done on that day. Also, their blood clotting abilities really kick in at the strongest on that day as well. Look the info up. Sorry if I went on to long and blessings to you and your family!

We have always used Jacksonvile Peds over in Riverside. They are great and have a lot of doctors in their practice, so getting in is never a problem. Plus, they see appointments only on Saturday for those sick days. That's nice. They do the circumcicion on day 1 or 2 in the hospital. I love all the docs there. Both of my kids are their patients. Highly recommend!
Hello. We had both of our children cicumcized right after birth and in the hospital. I would not have waited the few months to do it, I don't think it will hurt any less. To me it may actually hurt more because he may be up and moving a little more.
I don't know where you live but in the Southside area of town Jeremy Harris on University Blvd S is wonderful! We love him to death and he takes excellent care of our children.

I'm not understnading why you would trust one Doc for your older son, but not enough to use for your baby. If you have any question at all as to his competence, don't use him for either child. If you don't doubt his ability, use him for both. Save yourself the addad hassle of two different docs! There are going to be times when both kids are sick at the same time. Do you actually want to drive to one doc and then the other in the same day?!?
As far as circomsision goes, if you choose to do it, it sounds like everyone agrees that a week later isn't going to matter. Either they say the pain level is the same so it doesn't matter, or they say the pain level is less (at 8 days) (which IS biblical). So either way, your worry that his pain will be intensified seems to be unfounded. Good luck! ~C.
I would get it done as soon as possible. We got our son's done the next day, the dr. who delivered him was the one who did it.
I just had a baby in November and didn't want the hassle of too many doctors...He's going to our GP...I LOVE HIM so of course I had NO qualms going to him. He is better to him than ANY of our previous Pedes were to my other two boys!
Congrats on the boys!! I have 3 and have NO Plans on trying for a girl...I kind of ENJOY being the only gal in the house ;)
I agree with Andrea, Orange Park Pediatrics, and there is one in Argyle. You have lots of options!! Also you may check North Florida OBGYN, They delivered my daughter and all was very well!! They also have several locations Baymeadows, San Jose, Kingsley, just to name a few. After the delivery you can have your baby's doctor come see the baby in the hospital. But North Fla OBGYN does do circumsision in the hospital before you leave. Hope this helps!! Good Luck AS for the two you have, go with the one that does the Circum. then switch later after all the shots. For convenience purposes.
Hi Noelia,
I would definitely go to the doctor that your 1st son saw as an infant. It DOES hurt more to have the circumcision later, because my 2nd son had to wait and it was an obvious trauma to the little guy:( My 1st son had his circumcision done the next day like yours did, and he didn't notice a thing really. It was explained to me that the nerves are not as mature right after birth, but the longer you wait, the more feeling the baby has. It may seem like a hassle, but it is only for a few months and worth it for the little guy. I hope everything goes smoothly:)
God Bless You & Your Family,
