He is ready for a bike. Mine started riding bikes w/ training wheels at age 3.
What kind of bike should I get my 3yr old, who turns 4 in January? I am debating on the Big Wheels type versus a small bike, with training wheels. I like that the Big Wheels are low to the ground, but do they have good traction? Is my son ready for a bike with training wheels? What are your experiences? Thanks!
Thank you everyone for your opinion!! I ended up getting my son a 12inch bike with training wheels for his 4th birthday. He was thrilled at having a "big boy" bike. He was a little wobbly at first, but after a few tries, he is riding everywhere now!

Go with the bike with training wheels.
i bought my daughter a 12in. bike with training wheels last year for christmas, she was 2, she only starting riding it this year, so since your son is a little older than she seeing as how she just turned 3 in Sept. This might be good for him.
Get a small bike. Big Wheels are junk. Seriously. The tires have no traction at all. If you get him a small bike, he'll be able to use it far longer as well. We got my daughter a 12 in Huffy a few years ago. I think it was $50 at WalMart. She's not even close to the top setting on the seat, so she'll be able to use it for at least another year. My daughter is 3, she'll be 4 in January and we got her the bike for her 2nd. She had a really hard time pedaling last year, but this year she took off like a rocket! I would guess he's probably ready for a "big boy" bike. It might take some practice, but he'll get it in no time. Just take him to WalMart or Toys R Us and let him sit on the bikes so you get the right size. Make sure to get a helmet and knee pads too.
