Where to Take Outgrown Clothes for Resale?

I have a whole bunch of clothes I would like to resell. I thought about reselling them on Craigslist or Ebay or even at a consignment sale. However, I just don't have the time to go through everything and tag it. (I have over 6 boxes of clothes ranging from preemie to 6 mo. And also maternity.)

I'm just wanting to take it to like Kid to Kid or Once Upon a Child, but I want to get as much as I can from them. Where did you take your clothes to & get the best return for them?

Thanks moms! :-)

If you have the time Ebay is the way to go...especially if they are name brand like Gymboree or Gap. Once you get it started it doesn't take too long...if you have questions please feel free to ask me..

Craigslist is ok too but I found I wasn't able to get much for the items...

Consignment stores do not pay well at all...

If you take it to someplace like kid to kid I beleive they go though them for you and offer you a price. I can not say for sure though, I donate all our stuff to the local children and family homeless shelter and domestic violence safe house. I would rather know it is being used by someone who really needs it than worry about trying to recoup a small portion of the money spent.

You won't get much for infant clothing anywhere. You may be better off taking the tax deduction and donating. (It's a lot different for older kids clothing depending on brand, size and condition). You will do best at a consignment shop if you have complete outfits and everything is clean and ironed. For toddler clothing (if brand name) you can do best on ebay. But it is more work.

You won't get 1/2 of what you think you will get at the places you mentioned. Be ready for a letdown if you go to any of those places.

I prefer to donate and get the tax deduction. That way, someone who truly needs the good clothes gets them and maybe it puts a smile on a young girls face when she gets some Abercrombie, etc. clothing that she would never get otherwise.

Of course, selling online is an option but how much time do you want to spend. Time= $ and it is not worth my time.

I took them to the consignment stores. No guarantee they will take them all. When my kids were outgrowing in the sizes you mentioned, whatever the consignment store would not take I would donate. Sometimes the consignment store might have too many of something so they won't take.

Honestly I think Kid to Kid and Once Upon a Child are about the same. Your best bet is to make sure they are all cleaned very well and neat. The better they look the more you are going to get for them. I don't do Craiglist or eBay any more because I don't like to deal with shipping.

You will probably only get about a 5th of what you paid for clothing. I don't let them donate the clothing they don't want. You can donate yourself with people who will pick it up at your door and you can use the donation receipt on your taxes as a charitable donation.

Good luck!

I would not advise wasting your time with Kid to Kid. I have taken bags of clothes to them and they only will buy 2 or 3 items at a time. They say that to buy anything it has to be in prestine condition and in the current style. I don't know about Once Upon a Child though.

I think sell it by the box, outline whats inside, and what you paid, then ask for whatever you think is reasonable. I think 1/4 to 1/3 of what you paid, if the stuff is perfect condition

Ditto on donating... the consignment events like Just Between Friends that require tagging are a lot of work and not worth it for preemie and infant clothing. I have had good success selling toddler and above sized clothes at those events, but the infant stuff always comes back even if I try to sell them for a couple of bucks (nice stuff too). I have heard you won't get much when you drop off clothes at places like Kid to Kid and Once Upon a Child so I haven't bothered.
