i am getting two bunk beds from there. read reviews, descriptions etc. I looked at pottery barn ones and they just seemed cheaply made.
OK, so we are in a small colonial house - the kids are in a bedroom with an angled ceiling (from the roof). Our 5 year old is in a twin, and our 2.9 year old is getting a little big for the toddler bed. We'd like to get them bunk beds, but one challenge is the configuration in the room with the slanted ceiling. Does anyone know of any good stores (in the Boston area) or sites where we can find quality bunk beds? I'm hoping to find a set that is low enough or maybe one that can be set up in an L or T configuration. I've seen a few sites just googling, but many of the frames I've seen look kind of cheap. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!
Thank you all for the great input. We haven't made our purchase yet, but we did go to the Maxtrix showroom in Newton. They were good solid beds and the prices are very reasonable, so unless we can't make the configurations work, I think we may go with those.

We live worlds apart, but I had the same issue when I looked for my son's bunkbed. We wanted the t shape with the drawers and shelves on one side and a desk on the other. And we have the slanted ceilings too. We searched high and low and everything in the stores looked too flimsy. Finally I started checking craigslist.org and found several. The problem is they seemed to sell really fast on cl, so it took a little longer than I expected. We finally found what we wanted, solid wood and heavy in the exact configuration we wanted. And the added bonus is that it only cost us $200. So my recommendation would be to check there first.
Check out youngamerica.com. We looked at some of their furniture for our girls. It was really nice. You can put in your zip code and it will give you a list of dealers in your area. It isn't cheap quality or price but is built to last. I think they had bunks that you could later take apart and use separately.
We live in a 1940s house in seattle so I hear u on space.. we are so so happy with our Pottery Barn bunk beds.. we splurged but love it.. they are white they come in other colors.. we got the ones that have a full bed on the bottom and a twin on the top.. :) Since we splurged we decorated the rest of the room with target things and it matched nicely.. We did use a Pottery Barn credit card and it had 12 months no intrest then they gave u Pottery Barn bucks back.. So I saved the couple hundred dollar certificate for birthdays. They did a good job with delievery and set up.
We've gotten two sets of bunk beds at IKEA in Stoughton. I don't care for a lot of IKEA products (they have some items that don't look like "real" furniture) but we have been quite happy with both sets of beds. They are made from solid wood and come in quite a few variations. One set that we have is quite tall (for our older kids) and the other, for our younger kids, is relatively low and fits into a pretty tight space without overwhelming the room.
If money were no object, I would probably look at PB Kids. Jordan's also has a nice collection of children's bedrooms with lots and lots of variety.
we live in a trailer with very low ceilings, so we didn't want one too tall, plus we are flat broke, so they had to be cheap!
I got this one off amazon, and it is the most solid bunk bed I have ever seen, it doesn't move even if you push on it hard. What I liked about it also was the angled ladder, the ones stuck straight up and down are uncomfortable and awkward for middle of the night toilets.
It went up easy, on my own, took me about 2 hours. I bought the wolf mattress from walmart to go on it, and my son says its really comfy.
They would seperate into two beds so easily too.
The trade off for it not being so tall, is that you can't sit up on the bottom bunk if you are over 3 or 4 years old.
I mean for $199 it is a major bargain!
When I bought mine off amazon, it was 199, but now the price has gone up, but walmart still sell it for 199

take a look at the Matrix Childrens Beds. there is a dealer in Newton. I'm looking at these for my 3 year old to make the move this summer. they have various configurations. i like them b/c they can be low twin beds for now. then you can add the extension legs to make it a mid or high loft bed. our rooms are small so we're going to do the low twin bed... adn then graduate to the mid loft bed with the bureaus underneath.
Check out the Pacific Rim Woodworking bunk bed system. It's not inexpensive, but it's beautiful and simple, and seems very flexible in terms of configuration. Good luck!
IKEA. You might even want to go w/a trundle bed instead of a bunk bed due to configuration of the room. You might even want to find some local craftmanship type people who work w/wood to custom make you one but it might be rather pricey. All the Best...
HI, We got the MYDAL bunkbed from Ikea in Stoughton, MA for our 2 daughters who are the same age as yours! It is pretty sturdy and cheap too. We also liked it because it wasn't as high as the others we saw because we were looking for something relatively low too. The ladder mounts on the right or left and the wood looks unfinished. You could probably try painting it to match your decor. We left it as is. So far, the kids and we have been happy with it.
I can tell you where NOT to buy bunk beds -- Rooms To Go. Ours started falling apart just past the one year warranty. Junk!
Jordan's has some nice ones.
The bed we got our son is from http://www.ne-kids.com/. The small furniture store where we got it just went out of business which is disappointing, but maybe you can find one near you.
The bed is all solid wood, very good quality! We looked at Bob's but bed was mostly particle board for the same price!
Edited to add after reading that people suggested IKEA...we had bunk bed from there and it squeaked so loud, it would wake my restless sleeper! I would pay the extra to go with a good quality solid wood bed.
I'd see if you have an IKEA near by. The craftmenship is generally very good at IKEA and affordable.
