Where to Get Glasses?

My two year old was just given a pretty severe nearsighted prescription and we need to get him glasses. I am looking for recommendations as to where to get the glasses. Given the significant prescription, I would prefer somewhere other than a "chain" place. I am in Barrington but am willing to travel a bit for the right place.
Thanks!

I had great luck at Target Optical for my 11 year old son's glasses!! Everyone I know that has used Target here has been happy. My eye dr. didn't have a single pair of frames under $200 and for an 11 year old boy that was crazy!!

I have heard good and bad things about Walmart Vision center - my friends like it - but I have heard of people getting the wrong rx and things like that.

I have heard that Pearl Vision and Lenscrafters are extremely pricey.

Sears Optical has a special right now...

Just some ideas.

umm, well depending upon how much they cost, you can online to Zenni Optical.. my husband buys his glasses there because to buy them at a store, would cost about $500 to $600 dollars...... On Zenni, he gets them much muh cheaper.. Granted, it is online...

I am not in your area but I agree with you to not go to a eyeglass chain store.

My Dr. prescribed some very mild glasses for me for the first time 2 months ago. I went to EyeMasters and it was like buying a car. The stairstepping and upping of price. They advertised 2 pair for 1 price and then when you started "dealing" by adding any features, it was not a deal.

I was quoted $149 plus taxes for 2 pair and I ended up with 1 pair for $350. I got my 1 pair, and I still have a hard time with them and don't wear them as I should because they have progressive lens and the movement from up/down/side to side makes me dizzy.

EyeMasters did try to rectify the issue. I kept my glasses and use them at the computer only.

THAT SAID...I visited my Dr. and I regret not buying from him, even though it would have been pricier.

I'm always the one on here saying "you get what you pay for" and that was a prime example. I didn't heed my own words.

Good luck

I'm sorry you're not in Utah, because we've found a terrific optometrist who is the father of seven and highly trained in pediatric exams who is an excellent source for our eye care needs.
If you don't get a specific recommendation, consider calling a few and asking if they have training and gear for pediatric exams. Our doctor is our source for glasses, too, because his staff is experienced with children's eyewear. We always order the super-flexible/unbreakable type of frames--not everyone carries these--, which are more expensive than others, but I haven't regretted it.
Best wishes!

I used to got o Palatine Vision Center (just google them) when I lived in the area. They were great with customer service and follow up. Specifically, my Dr was Dr Lehrfeld.

Glasses are expensive but when you go to a chain place they often don't get the prescription / strength right. I've wore glassess fo the past 20+ years, and so does everyone in my family. Unless your prescription is really light/weak, chains often don't get it right, especially with astimatism.

Best of luck!
