Okay, there is a TON of stuff that is opening up right around there right now! There is a fabulous place, one of my faves, called La Bodega on 119th and Roe (like 2 blocks from where you're staying) it is Spanish tapas and they have the best sangria ever! My husband even loves this place, so it's not froo-froo or anything. There is also Avenues Bistro right there, another tapas place but a little more fancy than funky and they have a great wine list. You must also try Andre's for brunch or lunch. It is also on 119th between Roe and Nall and it is going to blow your mind. It is a Swiss confectionary place with homemade quiche and chocolates. I don't think it's open Sunday though, so make sure you go Saturday.
In the same area as La Bodega there is new upscale shopping and a brand new Trader Joe's market. If you don't have TJ's you need to check it out! It is low cost, super yummy, healthy, organic type foods and it rocks!!
Town Center is a good place to shop for adults, but the Oak Park Mall is just 10 minutes away and is an indoor mall and it's much more fun for the kids. There is a carousel, a free play area perfect for the 1 and 3 y/o, a Build a Bear Workshop, American Girl Doll Store, Disney Store, tons of places to eat. Both malls have a Barnes and Noble too and they have a train table and story time on the weekends.
There are a lot of pumpkin patches that are near. Louisburg is close by and I love it, but honestly, the patch isn't that great. There are others that are more of an "experience" but I go back to there every year for the cider donuts. They are a childhood favorite of mine and seriously to die for.
I also suggest Deanna Rose Farmstead. It's $2/person on the weekends but it's still worth it. You can literally spend a day there, or at least most of a day! Crown Center is downtown and there is lots to see and do there. They usually have a free exhibit that's interative and there is a restaurant called Fritz's that brings the food by train. Union Station may also have an exhibit (although it costs) right now as well. Keliodoscope (at Crown Center) is always fabulous too, but you have to find out when their "family" time is so you can go in with the young ones.
There is so much to do! Definitely try one of our local restaurants b/c we have a nice little food niche here! Feel free to message me if you have any further questions...I love to eat out and we try and keep our kids active! ;) Have fun!!
