M.E.
Bike shorts at Children's Place or you can order these on-line http://www.monkeybarbuddies.com. My daughter has worn both and either works fine.
I need to find some biker type shorts for my daughter to wear under her dresses/skirts to kindergarten (for modesty when she hangs upside down on the monkey bars, etc). She wears a 4 or 5. Where can I find these? I have never seen them in stores in her size, and I'm worried it's too late in the season anyway. My daughter is VERY picky about being comfortable. (I don't blame her because she has eczema), so regular shorts won't do; they are too bulky.
If you found some, could you please mention WHEN you saw them. Every where I look on the internet, they are out of stock.

I don't see them anymore, but here's my solution. Buy some black leggings and cut the legs off. I have made several pairs just like that for my daughter, and they've never unraveled or fallen apart or anything. They just look like regular biker shorts.
From Gymboree, they have "bike shorts." Girls, routinely use these for under their dresses or skirts. My daughter included.
BUT, I ALSO taught my daughter, from when she was 2-3 years old, to keep her legs closed with her dress/skirt covering her crotch, when wearing dresses or skirts, and to be careful if/when on a playground jungle gym.
just go online to Gymboree or those other stores the other women mentioned below.
The Gymboree Bike shorts, are 100% cotton and very cute and comfortable and even my picky daughter, liked them.
Here is the link:

And input "bike shorts" in the search bar.
OR, go to E-bay and they have them there too.
I bought some nice form fitting pairs at The Children's Place cuz I was having the same issue. They have tons of colors and they weren't too expensive. They are part if their 2 for items.
We buy ours at The Children's Place, if you don't have one near you, you can go to their website and order some. My daughter wears them under almost all dresses and skirts. They have various colors and good prices. Today they are offering FREE shipping....they do promotions all the time.
Gymboree has them. I just bought a pink pair a few weeks ago.
check out short dancewear type stuff, too
We buy them anywhere we see them - Target, thrift stores, WalMart, Children's Place...usually we buy leggings or cotton shorts, though, not biker shorts.
I have gotten them at Walmart. Right now we just do athletic type shorts under her skirts and that works just fine. Another option is leggings that cut off mid-calf or under the knee. You might want to check out Children's Place, or Target, too, as I've seen them there, as well.
Dance shops
Gymnastics shops
Amazon
(all of the above are year round)
Look in the phone book for dance studios or gymnastics places. They might have clothing for sale in a store area or with the leotards. I buy a lot of Basic Moves booty shorts for our girl to wear under her dresses and over her leo's during gymnastics/tumbling classes.
If she doesn't want to wear long leggings under a dress, maybe you can buy some and then cut and hem them so they are "shorts" length. I don't know if i have seen any in stores that are "bike shorts" style. Maybe a sports store though.
I just bought some for my daughter at Justice. They were even on clearance, but that was about 2 weeks ago. I did find this link online, but not alot of colors...the ones I found in the store were black.

In addition to the places already suggested, Hanna Andersson has them as well (catalog or on-line).
My 16 yr old is a cheerleader and has been a few yrs now. She loves the spandex they wear with uniforms, practice wear, etc and wears them with her skirts.
They are spandex, look like short boy shorts, are sold as cheer spandex, etc. Most of ours are custom with the cheer squad but you can find some generic ones rather reasonably, at Academy and Dicks.
Get real fancy and go to cheerleading.com for some cute patterns, etc.
Good luck!
Does she not like the skorts? My daughter wears them rather than regular skirts (they have the built in shorts underneath) - we get them from Kohls and the Children's place.
Good luck
I just buy plain shorts at Wal-Mart or Target.
My daughters wear volleyball shorts or cheerleading spanks bought online or at dicks in season.

I buy leggings for my daughters. I can find them at Target, meijer, etc...
Kohls.com has capri leggings in various colors in your daughter's size right now. I also saw some at the Portage store a week or so ago (white with lace at the bottom), but I haven't seen any bike shorts.
jumping bean at kohls has some shorter shorts that my dd wears under her skirts and dresses.
Check the sporting goods stores such as Dunhams or Dick's.

I buy my little girl the capris at Old Navy that are kind of like little sweat pants without the elastic at the bottom. This time of year they are usually on clearance. They look a little bit like pantaloons under her dresses. She can run and play and hang upside down, and is fully covered and adorable. I just peeked on their website and don't see what I have bought previously. You may need to go into the store to see what they have.
What you're looking for is more of an athletic item so I'd look where they sell things for sports for kids.
