Where Should We Move? - Hawthorne,NJ

My family and I are thinking of moving next spring. We recently took a ride through Westwood, NJ and fell in love with the center of town. However, someone recently stated that the high school was not very well respected among the neighboring towns. Can anyone out there give me some input on this? Also, does anyone have any advice as to towns to look in, in Bergen County, that have a great school system, as well as, a wonderful center of town...of course while still affordable?

What can I do next?

I live in Westwood and so far we are very happy with it. We live quite close to town so we are able to walk there. My kids are young so we do not have any experience with the schools yet. I have however heard what you were saying about the high school. Growing up in Bergen County(Allendale) anyone I knew who lived in Westwood went to private high school. They have been trying to do things to make the high school better however. I have noticed many young families moving to Westwood due to the affordability for the area.

Ridgewood is a nice town. It is expensive but can definitely find an affordable house though it will probably be small with little property.Glen Rock as someone mentioned is another nice town but the taxes are ridiculous! Hillsdale and Washington Township are also nice towns near Westwood but Washington Township shares a high school with Westwood.

I hope this helps. If you want more info. on Westwood or other towns in Bergen County let me know.

Isn't Bergen County and Affordable and oxymoron? Isn't affordable also a relative term? What may be affordable for one may not be affordable for another?

Sorry I couldn't be of help to you. But I do hope you find what you are looking for.

I'm not quite sure if "Bergen County" and "affordable" can be used in the same sentence...

I have friends who live in Oradell, Closters and Leonia and they are all very happy there. I think the schools are all decent, but I don't know much about the "center of town" atmosphere. How about Ridgewood? Is that in Bergen County? I've heard that's a nice little town.

Have fun with your search! Oh, and if you're willing to travel a bit south, Summit is quite nice, if a bit pricey.

HAHA Karin, I was just going to suggest Central, VA.
It's warmer here than NJ and just a short jaunt to the Capital.
Plus King's Dominion, Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, and we're closer to Disney. :o)

Fair Lawn is in Bergen County, and affordable, and with respectable schools... though probably not any better than Westwood. And FL doesn't have as much of a "wonderful center of town."
What about Glen Rock? Great schools and cute downtown. But you're probably familiar with both of these towns, being in Hawthorne, which is so close by.
I think Westwood is fine. The neighboring towns are just snobs! (I grew up in Demarest, so I'm allowed to say that.) :-)
