My sister in law is having the hardest time finding after school care for her son with Asperger's. They have a lot going on so I am trying to help and am not having much luck either. Does anyone have any suggestions.... What do you do when you are a single parent and you have a 13 1/2yr, who's in middle school with Asperger's?? They can't stay home alone and most daycares & the Y don't want your child 'cause he's too old and has special needs.... who knows...... arghhhh..... Please help... Thanks

What can I do next?

I'm new here, so I probably won't be much help. However, I would ask the special ed teachers at his school. You might also try the YMCA or Big Brothers. They at least might have more info on services available in this area. Good Luck!

A lot of home day cares will do after school care. What area does your sister-in-law live?

Hi J., not sure what city you live in, but I get my sitters from Mid America Nazarene University in Olathe. You can go to MNU.edu and click on campus life, then career center, then employer login. This will get you to a place where you can list a babysitting job, and it will go online to the kids there and they can reply to you. I hope I remembered the login stuff correctly. Anyway I have been using the kids there for about 10 years, and have only had one babysitter that I had to let go. Everyone else has been great. The only thing to keep in mind is most of them live elsewhere in the US and go home on holidays. Good luck!!

The Family Conservancy and Day Care Connections provide a list of registered and licensed daycare in the metro area.

I'm in Olathe 66061 area code. I'd be willing to talk to your SIL if our location works for her.

Hi, J.. As a daycare provider, I know my license is only to age 12. I would recommend calling Day Care Connection at ###-###-#### and asking them for referrals. Also, your sister-in-law might have much better luck looking for a college student wanting some part time work. Check at JCCC or other local colleges for interest. Good luck!

How about the YMCA? They do after school care in our area.
