Where Do All the Crayons Go?

We are down to the last dregs of the crayons again, even though I'd swear I just brought home 3 boxes. I know some of them are in the toy fire truck, taking a ride. Some were used as "tools" (put through the holes in the toybox) and are probably getting squished by toy dinosaurs as I write. The dog ate a few too. But that hardly accounts for them all. Where did they go? What disappears at your house?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ha ha - thanks all. It seems they run from some houses to others.

Ours MIGHT be in the heat registers, but my house doesn't smell like candles. With a stay-at-home Dad and 3 boys, coming home to the smell of candles sounds kinda nice! :)

Crayons, pens, pencils, glue, socks, and now, I do not know where my son's jacket is!
All these things have a place. My kids know that. They get it, they put it back. It is often in a plastic little box or basket they can tote around (hence keeping it together) or in a pencil cup on the miscellaneous shelf. So how it ends up missing in action, is one of those unanswered phenomena in a house with kids. LOL
My kids' jackets, same thing. But for some reason, my son cannot remember where his jacket is. Darn.

Oh, but my son KNOWS where all his tiny little Lego pieces are and which ones are where.
He has a box and a shelf for all of it and is actually good about organizing it.

Oh, and have a place for broken pieces of whatever.
I have a plastic bowl, that we put all these sorts of things in. My kids know and do it. So when we are looking for something, they know where to look.

Oh and another reason why things may disappear is.... when I vacuum. I just vacuum. I hear things going in it. Oh well!

The remote controls to the tv's disappear constantly. I swear there must be a remote control ghost in my house who hides them. We search at least once a day for them and find them in the most unusual places:(

I 'imagine' they go off to a 'special' place...and mate with ALL of the white socks that go missing...

And then, combining their forces, become some of the cute multi colour socks I buy from time to time.

I have no evidence of this of course...

But it helps ME to manage!

lol
best luck!

I wish I had your problem. The crayons seem to multiply on there own around here. I keep donating them to the library, Sunday school and the YMCA, but we still have crayons! I bet I even have about 10 in my purse right now.

My guy throws them away when they break (he purposely was breaking them) so when I bought more a couple of weeks ago they were for ME. He has to ask to use them and return them to me, and hasn't broken any, though he ripped the box which I taped. He's learning and is getting a huge new box as one of his birthday gifts next month.

Pens. The more I buy the faster they disappear :-/

I wish they went somewhere. We have so many since we get free ones at restaurants and other kid friendly places, we have more than enough.

In my house they are in the baseboard heaters which is why my house smells like a candle factory if we turn on the heat.

You can have some of ours! I have a plastic large-shoebox size container full of crayons. It started with one large box for home and has been filled over the years with leftovers from school at the end of the year. I need to send some of them off to this place:
http://www.crazycrayons.com/recycle_program.html

With crayons, markers, colored pencils - basically all at/craft stuff - has to be used at the kitchen table. They they are put away when not in use. A random crayon has occasionally gone astray and found elsewhere, but that is unusual.

Let's not talk about the orange one that came home from school in a pocket and took a trip through the washer and dryer.

Check under the couch. That's our black hole. Also under car seats.

We actually have more than enough crayons, because my kids prefer markers. Marker tops and ballpoint pens disappear in my house.

In my house my son eats them LOL. Right now I know there are a few in my winter coat pockets. I am currently missing some socks that the dryer must have eaten. Also those little beads that you iron, those my couch ate. I've got an older daughter who loves to do arts and crafts but whatever she is doing ends up under furniture or in the dogs mouth.

Just check the pockets before doing the laundry! You might find those crayons in a pretty rotten way...

Sorry but in our house the crayons procreate. At an alarming rate. But they only give birth to crayon pieces.
