Technically it is descrimination however look at it from the employers point of view. You will just about get trained and you will have to take time off to have the baby and then they will have to retrain you. It would be to their advantage to wait and hire you after the baby is born. Sorry

If you are qualified for the position and present yourself well and they are only giving you the "omg are you crazy" look because of your belly then they are BREAKING THE LAW! That is discrimination.

I would suggest talking through your interview and if you really personally and professionally feel that you are a good fit, I would pursue why you have not been given a chance. I was hired at my current position (5 years ago) when I was 6+ months pregnant and clearly showing… it should NOT be a factor!

Good Luck!

I was able to successfully get a part-time job recently, but when I was interviewing and started to show, like you, I was not getting anywhere looking for a full-time job.

Maybe you'd have better success like I did finding a part-time job until your daughter is born. Companies hiring part-time won't be holding things like health benefits against you since you won't qualify for them anyway as a part-time employee. Then you can start applying for full-time work again after your daughter is born. Just an idea... best of luck!

I heard babys r us hire pregnant women. Might give them a try. Or a daycare might be a good place to try

Yes, it is illegal. Part of discrimination against sex includes pregnancy status. Even so, it happens all the time. I'm in the same boat. My kiddo is due Sept 19, and nobody wants to hire me either. I'm sorry. I wish I had some advice for you. Just keep trying, somebody will hire you. Motherhood and Destination Maternity also hire pregnant women.

I don't have an answer for you regarding the job situation, other than to comment on the fact that its discrimination. Although you would think its discrimination, I don't think not hiring someone becuz they are preg. is protected under federal law. You can't discriminate becuz of age, sex, race. But I don't believe being preg. is one of them.

Secondly tho, have you talked to a lawyer about filing for divorce and asking for Child Support and Spousal Support?? That is income you can use that you and your children are entitled to. You can call Leslie Combs and she will give a free 30 min consultation and tell you your options. She is a GREAT family law atty. ###-###-####. Good Luck!

While I agree that this is discrimination, it really doesn't help you with your dilemna. I work for a small company and while they have had several pregnant people working here at one time or another, there is a fear that the employee will get hurt or they may have to end up paying benefits to an employee who has only been working there a month. I know that's not a fair deal but it's a very real reason as to why people aren't hiring you. Also, there is probably training involved... Who would want to spend time and money training someone when they're going to leave in a few weeks.
I know I seem unsympathetic and I don't mean to. I do feel for you, I can't imagine the panic you're in right now. I'm trying to be realistic though. I have also been denied a position because I was pregnant but I told them up front before I was even showing because I didn't feel like it was fair to put them in that situation. Plus, have you thought about childcare? It may not be worth it if you're just working to pay daycare. I agree with the poster who said to get money from your husband. File for support immediately!
I wish you luck. Please let us all know if you find a job. Prayers to you and your little one(s).
