I am looking for a location to donate a spare infant seat. It is older, but still works and is accident free. Any advice?
Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your responses. I am going to recycle it. The expiration date is in December, so it won't be useful for very long. I read on line that most of the plastic can be recycled, so I may go that route. This was an extra car seat in case of emergency. I did use it for a couple of naps or shower time (my daughter spit up quite a bit and it would scare me in the beginning, so I kept her upright). It would be useful for someone and they could even cut the straps out since it should not go in the car. I will likely donate the base, as I dont believe it had an expiration, and destroy the seat for recycling. Seems like such a waste, but it has served a few babies well:)

I donate all my good-condition items to Friends of the Inn, the thrift store where all proceed go to the Samaritan Inn. It is the only shelter in all of Collin County for families in need and if a needy family comes in they give them what they need. It's a great place, in McKinney, off 380.

Carseats expire regardless of if they have been in an accident or not. Many have expiration dates, but if not, it should 5 years.

I don't think anyone will take a used infant seat. I know the places in Frisco that I volunteer at do not.

Try a pregnancy resource center or a shelter. They are always looking for items to help new moms who may not have the best support system. Hope that helps.

What about a women's shelter? I am going to take all my things to one when I am done because I know most of those moms are without and struggling to make it.

I'm not sure if there are "rules" for donating an infant seat but I would think it is ok if you have all of your paperwork handy you could.

Another source would be to ask your local Police and Fire Department.

you can take it to once upon a child and get a little money for it or maybe a church you go to.

I know CASA takes them close to expiration since they only use them to transport children to hearings, etc.

I saw your followup. I would check with an installation technician (or www.car-seat.org) and see if the base is ok passed the expiration date. I'm pretty sure when I got mine installed, they were concerned about the bases as well. Those are important as well since that is what the infant carrier snaps on to.

Good luck. That's great you are trying to help someone (and the environment) out!
