Walmart and Target sell Disney dresses and shoes for a fraction of the cost of the Disney store. Plus they also sell non Disney dress up stuff.
I'd like to buy a few princess-type dresses and accessories (Disney and non-Disney) for my 3 year old girl to play dress-up in.
Where can I find some that's relatively inexpensive, new or gently used, in-store or online, size 5-6. I'd like to spend around $10 per dress. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg since it'll only be for play.
Thanks!!
Thanks for all the responses!! This is all so very helpful and I appreciate it!

sign up with www.freecycle.org (Bolingbrook is part of it) and ask for one. You would be amazed at what you can get for free. I'd bet there is at least one mom who has a daughter who has outgrown a princess-type dress and will willing to part with it.
check Lillian Vernon-I believe they sell them as a set of 4 dresses w/the shoes and hair accessories that comes in a trunk for $40
My daughter got a whole trunk of stuff for Christmas. My mom got it at Toys R Us. It's something similar to this Dream Dazzlers Dress Up Trunk:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3513492
Has dresses & shoes & other accessories. Toys R Us has a ton of dress up stuff like this!
I've seen the skirts at TJMaxx ... as part of a whole dress up rack.
Big Lots/Odd Lots has TONS of them in the toy department.
I think illinois has those stores, not sure. But if not, WalMart has them in their toy department as well.
I think the ones at wal mart are like 10 to 15??
Good luck to you.
check out the good will stores and the salvation army stores or basically any thrift stores. they usually have a bunch of them.
If I hadn't already given my niece 3 full bags of dress-ups (yeah, my sister was REAL happy about that), I'd have asked for your address and just sent them to you. Between my two girls, countless Halloweens, birthdays, hand-me-downs from other older girls, etc we had *easily* 30 different costumes. When we moved, we had no place to put them (smaller closets, etc) and they were too nice to just throw away, but slightly too ratty to donate. In fact, they were perfect to give away to a younger girl. If I were you, I'd post a craigslist ad in the "for sale/wanted" section for your area about purchasing costumes for play. I would imagine there are plenty of parents out there who were in my exact position - wanting to get rid of all those princess dresses, but not wanting them to go to waste. Or just browse craigslist for "costumes". You should find at least a few people who want to sell their kids dress-ups.
I have a size 6 cinderella dress from Disney. email me and I will sentd it to you. My daughter has outgrown it and it is hanging in the closet for 2 years. I was going to donate it to the daycare, but it is glittery.
E-Bay.
They have tons.
Wal-Mart and Target have them. We also buy them at a Walmart type grocery store here in Michigan called Meijer if you have a store like that where you live. They are about $20.
Hi Holly-
Other than checking the Disney store for sales, you may have to wait until late August/September when resale shops like Once Upon a Child (Rte. 30 in Crest Hill) sell their Halloween costumes. They always have a ton. Also, I've bought non-Disney dresses at mydressuptrunk.com. Those are homemade dresses (by stay-at-home moms) for $27.
The other resale shop I love is called Inch by Inch on Black Rd. and Rte. 59 in Shorewood. Kind of a hike so maybe call ahead of time to see if/when they have princess dresses. They usually have a ton of cute (very lightly used) dresses for everyday wear. Love them!
we got some super cute dresses at garage sales. They aren't official princess, but they're pretty and flouncy and my 3 year old likes dressing up in them.
Definitely E-bay...I've gotten a lot on there as far as dress-up stuff. Watch for actual Disney STORE dresses that are in great like new condition...they are much better quality and will not fall apart like the Walmart Disney stuff tends to & used on ebay, they'll be about the same price. The other thing about the real Disney store dresses is that you can re-sell them on ebay & get most of your money back.
Also, go on Facebook & ask if any of your friends have any they are ready to part with because their daughters have outgrown them...you may be surprised to find a lot that way!
Naperville Yard Sales often has things like that listed. I've gotten quite a few costumes in decent shape and at a good price.
do you have a Christmas Tree Shoppe near you? They sell gorgeous dressup outfits (and halloween costumes) for like $7 each!
Tuesday morning had some great ones. They are especially good, as they are washable! (So when you get marker, yougart, ...etc. on them, they are easy to wash.)
Also, these seem to be comfortable to wear - no scratchy places. :)
(I was able to find them for ~$13.)
Another good place is: http://www.littledressupshop.com/
The items they have are a little more expensive, but also hold up REALLY well, and are washable. (With no zippers, snaps, velcro.... so the kidlets can get in and out of them on their own. :) )
Hope that helps. :)
(My now 4 year old about lives in her dresses. She is only now growing out of some that she has had since her 2nd birthday. We have washed them MANY times, and they are still doing well. :) )
They have them at Wal-mart
