My daughter is 11 months old and I had to hold off on starting any baby food until she was 9 months. She had a tetherd lip and her doctor told me to keep her on a liquid diet until after her surgery, so she had a late start on cerals and baby food. She is now 11 months and has two teeth, she is showing an interest in solids, but still won't eat any baby food and very little ceral(about four spoonfuls) She won't drink juice, but likes water out of a sippy cup. I don't want to give her somthing she is not ready for and I'm scared she might choke. Any help would be apreciated.

What can I do next?

Hello
A good thing to start her on is the Gerber star puff. They melt i the baby's mouth but are solid at first so it is a great intro for her.

For some reason my daughter also had trouble swallowing some of the stage three foods, but has no trouble with solids(big people food. She still is not crazy about the juices, but will drink a whole bottle of water! We got her started eating by making sure that we gave her foods that she would like. Maybe try mashing up something really tasty, or buying the Gerber desserts to get your child used to the process. Thats what we did, then we introduced the veggies, etc., and she does just fine now!

Some suggestions would be mashed potatoes, sweet potatoe, bake an apple and mush it up for her, applesauce, cooked carrots, macaroni, overcook a little bit so it's really soft, bananas, cheerios. Those are a lot of things I gave both my girls. At around age one I gave them hard boiled eggs or scrambled eggs. She does not need the juice. That is great that she is drinking out of a sippy cup! Hope this helps!

Try giving her cheerios broken in half so she can get used to eating solids. They provide the same essential nutrients that you get out of the rice cereal and babies LOVE them. It may take her a little while to get the gist of it, so don't be totally freaked out if at first she gags on them a bit. She's just not used to having to swallow solids but she'll be able to spit it up on her own and soon enough she'll be eating them just fine! From there you can slowly start to introduce new foods and switch her over to solids completely. Some babies just prefer to be able to feed themselves. My daughter hated baby food and has been on all solids since 9 months :)

My son refused baby food when I tried to give it to him starting around 6 months (personally I think most taste pretty gross, so I can't really blame him). He wouldn't really trust me after that and wouldn't take any food. He wouldn't eat any "solid" foods till he was over a year old, he skipped all baby food. He still won't take any juice, which isn't really good for them anyway, water is far better. I would just try new things one at a time (in case of food allergies), but try solids instead in small pieces so she won't choke until she gets better with her teeth. My son never had any choking trouble even though he skipped the food introduction stage. As long a your doctor isn't concerned about too little weight gain and she is still getting her nutrients from breastmilk or formula, she should be fine.
