Once she is sitting up. My daughter is 7 months. I think I lowered mine right about 6 months. Once it's lower you may be able to keep the mobile on. So far my mobile is still on & she can't reach it.
My daughter is just 4 months old and is not yet rolling over. I know that soon I will need to remove her mobile (she loves it right now so I want to use it as long as possible) but I don't quite understand when I should lower the mattress platform in her crib? It is on the highest setting now. Any advice?
Thanks to everyone for their great responses...they are all very helpful and I feel I now know when I will need to lower the platform. This was my first post on mamasource and I am hooked...such a great resource!

Hi J.,
As long as there is no chance of her rolling over the edge or standing and falling over then the highest level would be fine. As soon as there is a chance (usually when they stand up next to the edge) of them going "head over" then it is time to lower the level. Just keep watching and I think you will know when it is time.
Good Luck,
J. J.
Sorry! Just realized you already had so many posts and responded! :D
When my little girl begins to sit up on her own I will reevalute. Right now she is 8 mo old and gets on her knees but still doesn't crawl that way. She can sit up if you put her that way but she doesn't prefer it and has yet to get into a sitting up position on her own so I know she is safe for now. She's just practicing and actually getting around on her tummy still so I know she isn't in any danger of climbing out or hurting herself. I would think that when she starts to try to pull into a standing position that's when that platform is goin down! HTH
We started with our crib on the lowest setting, then we didn't have to move the mobil till they were standing in the crib to reach it. Way longer than the "norms". We left the one side lower so we could reach the mattress easier. Once the kids were pulling up and acting as though they could get over the lowered rail, we started putting it up when they were in the crib. Not quite what everyone recommends, but were have never had a baby get hurt & we are on number 3.
I lowered the crib when I walked in after a nap and he had pulled himself up and was standing. Talk about almost having a heart attack! I should have done it sooner.
When she is sitting up and showing interest in pulling up on things is when you can lower it. Quite honestly, you can lower it now if you want. The only downside to lowering it is that you have to bend over more, which initially killed my back *laugh*.
When my son was able to touch the mobile I removed it. When he began to sit up on his own he never did it in bed... he loves to sleep and would stay laying down even when awake. When he started to crawl, I moved it to the lowest setting because he was starting to pull himself up to stand. My son is almost 14 months and tall for his age, and becoming more daring. I am actually debating now transitioning his bed to a toddler bed with rails. I figure if he tries to get out of it, it would be a shorter fall over the guard rather than the crib rails.
If your daugter isn't too mobile yet, rolling over or pulling herself up you can leave the mattress where it is at.
Hi,
I just read that the mobile should be removed when they reach and actually grab it. And the crib should be lowered when they are starting to pull up on things--a little later like 8 or so months.
Hi J. - as others have said, I would recommend lowering the crib as soon as your daughter sits up well and shows interest in pulling up on things. Don't wait until she has already learned to pull up b/c, like us, you may walk into her room to find her standing up in the crib w/ the mattress too high. Talk about scary!
Remove the mobile when she can sit up without help. Move the crib down when she can pull herself up on the side.
I agree with Jennifer...we just lowered my son's mattress and he just turned 7mos old a few days ago. He's able to sit up and he's constantly trying to pull up on things now. I really should've remembered to move it down at 6 months!

I know you got a billion responses but I just wanted to stress to you that as you soon as you see your baby sitting up or getting up to immediately lower it. We dragged and my baby fell out. Though she is okay it is something that should have not happened.
I didn't lower the crib for my girls until they were sitting. Ask your pediatrican though if you want the safest possible time to do so.
Your pediatrician is also there to offer parenting advice. They know a thing or two about kids:>.
Hello,
We lowered the crib when my daughter was old enough to sit up fairly well on her own, because that's when she really started reaching and we were afraid she could pull herself up on the rail. I can't remember exactly when that was... maybe around 6 months? If your daughter isn't rolling too much or pulling herself up, you probably don't have to change it yet.
Hope that helps!
Jen
Hi J., I would suggest to lower the platform when the baby begins to try and stand up on her feet,or when she is moving around alot
You lower it when she is starting to pull up.
can you lower the mobile AND the crib, so there's the benefit of both (entertainment for her and peace of mind for you)?
When my son was able to pull himself up to stand in the crib, that is when we lowered it.
You do not need to lower it until she can sit up on her own. Then you will need to lower it again when she stands. We lowered ours from the second to lowest to the lowest when she started walking. You can probably keep the mobile as long as she cannot reach it!
