When to Give Baby a Pillow.

My daughter is 15 months old. I was wondering if she is old enough for a pillow. When did you give your kids a pillow to sleep with. I think she would like a pillow as she often sleeps with her head on a bunched up blanket- or with her head on a stuffed bear.

What can I do next?

We put a pillow in my daughter's crib when she was 18 months old and she likes it, but still prefers to bunch her blanket up under her head and sleep with her bottom in the air!

Mine has had a pillow since she was 7 months old and has never had any problem with it at all. Our pediatrician told us to have her sleep propped up a little bit when she had a cold so I did and shes had her pillow ever since!

Once they can roll over and move their head around you are good. Then you don't have to worry about them smothering. If she is already using a blanket or animal anyway she is ready :)

I gave my son a pillow when he was about your daughters age.Although I think I could have done it sooner..I just did not think about it until my husband said " Don't you think poor Hunter could use a pillow"?. Then I went oops poor baby and he has had one ever since. It is one of the flatter ones though...

I gave my son a small "travel pillow" at about the same age, although I did unstuff it a little and sew it back up to flatten it a little. If one of your pillows is old enough to be flat for them to use, it is probably chuck full of dust mites too and no sense testing the allergies before you have to.
Good luck!

Lisa,
My son is 17 months and he currently uses a pillow. I found that when he was crawling into bed with me at about 15 months he wanted to sleep on my pillows. He also is usually congested at night so I thought it helps his breathing. So I started with a flat pillow without a pillowcase. Then when I felt comfortable with that I switched him to a regular pillow. Now he doesn't go without one.

Hi Lisa,
My pediatrician told me it was okay to give them a pillow at 1 year. I had a hard time finding little pillows for their cribs but now I know you can find them online if you search toddler pillows. With my daughter I ended up grabbing a flattened pillow of mine, washing it and giving it to her and she loves it.
