When Should the First Denstist Visit Be?

My daughter will be 2 in September. I was wondering when I should take her to the denstist. I took my son when he was 4 or 5 and he had a complete meltdown. It took years before we had a successful visit. I know I need to take her to a pediatric dentist to make the visit go more smoothly. Does anyone have any recommendations on one in Virginia Beach or Chesapeake?

What can I do next?

I started taking my boys to the dentist when they turned 2. The dentist I use is Dr. Eberly. He is located in Norfolk but I think it is worth the drive. I live in Va Beach too. He is a pediatric dentist. His is office is set up for children. He will let you go back there with the kids until they feel comfortable going back there by themselves. He is the same dentist that I saw as a child and I absolutly loved him, if I could still see him I would. His # is ###-###-#### if you want it.

I have a 4yr old and a 21month old. I did not take my 4 yro daughter until she was 3. My son, I took when he turned 1. I think the sooner the better. I live in Chesapeake and I take them to Dr Mark Levin. He is really GREAT!!!! He is very patient with the kids and he explains things to parents so that they can understand. (he does not say medical/dental terms that you don"t understand) He has 4 offices in the VA Beach and Chesapeake area. ###-###-#### is the number to the Kempsville Office. call that number for the other office locations.

Good Luck! I am sure that you will enjoy Dr Levin.

Unless your daughter is having a problem, you might want to wait until she is at least 3 years old before actually making a dentist appointment for her. My son's preschool teacher recomended Konikoff Family Dentistry in Virginia Beach on General Booth and they were wonderful. My 5 year old son hadn't been to the dentist since he had a meltdown at age 3, in Pittsburgh. My 3 year old daughter however, who has never had a dentist appointment did wonderful. I would suggest taking her with you when you get your regular check up so that she can see what to expect but I wouldn't rush it.

Hope this is helpful.

I would go ahead and make an apt. now. We see Dr. Plauka in Chesapeake. It is extremely kid friendly and they do a great job. I noticed your husband is Navy. They except United Concordia. One f my daughters needed to have 2 teeth pulled last fall. She was 3 1/2yr. It was the most positive experience. She loves going to the dentist even after that.

Konikoff in VB. Although, they don't see children until 3 yrs of age. One recommendation is to get your child used to having your fingers in the mouth. You can try that rubber thimble and flouride-free "paste."
